BHU is not part of IIT. With the formation of IIT BHU, it became an autonomous body independent of Banaras Hindu University. Earlier, it was known as Banaras Engineering University and got its new name after turning into IIT. 

The college has an excellent placement rate. Almost 60 per cent of the applicants were accepted into the programme.
