Maritime Non-Technical Education The Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical and Engineering Training CIFNET Kochi was established in the year 1963. This institute is situated in the progressive sea side city of Kochi, Kerala and holds the esteemed responsibility of orientating the future of naval science and fisheries industry in India. CIFNET Kochi was founded and owning by the government makes it an affiliated college among the related institutions. The campus of the institute is small covering an area of 4.35 acres But the size of the campus is small for the institute to provide quality education to its students.
The CIFNET Kochi satellite has several beautifully equipped state-of-the-art facilities that really enable an all round education. Library alone distinguishes the Institute as it possesses a good number of technical books & journals related to Nautical Science, Marine Engineering, Fishing Craft, Gear Technology, etc its marine instruments laboratory has sophisticated equipments for practical demonstration & identification of various types of marine instruments & their uses. In this case, this resource is also useful for the visiting scholars enrolled in other universities besides enhancing a research culture among the students.

Wise for students’ health, the campus provides amenities such as athletic complex and a gym for everyone who concentrates on physical conditioning. Comfort living is also provided with different hostels for boys and girls with a capacity of 150 students having adequate latest infrastructure facilities.
The institute currently offers one flagship program: the said B.F.Sc in Nautical Science. This is a four-year full time course that has an approved enrolment capacity of forty students to ensure that the institute’s good-quality education delivery is enhanced through adequately strengthened student-instructor ratio.
The purpose of the program is to enable students to acquire extensive and constructive mastery of knowledge in nautical science in order to enable them secure a strategic place in the maritime field. Although CIFNET maybe offer less number of courses in comparison to other institutes this kind of course specialization helps the Institute to focus on the needed area of study to offer in-depth knowledge of a phenomenal area of study.
CIFNET Kochi’s admission process is completely competitive and candidates are offered admission based on merit. Applicants for admission are offered through a Common Entrance Test (CET) accompanied by their performance in previous years.

The programme has an approved intake of 40 students from every academic year, assuring a favorable student-to-teacher ratio for good delivery of education.
