College of Fisheries, Ratnagiri, was established in the year 1981 and is one of the constituent colleges of the Maharashtra, devoted exclusively to fisheries education. The institute is situated in Shirgaon, Ratnagiri, and the institute occupies a total land area of 35.83 acres. Although it is an autonomous body, the programmes are recognised by the Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR) and it provides the complete spectrum of programmes in fisheries science or bio resources .
College of Fisheries has a total student enrolment of 220 and has six professors teaching in the college. This is because the college is a co-educational institution a factor that implies that both boys and girls are allowed to learn all that is taught here. As a whole, College of Fisheries, Ratnagiri has as many as 16 courses offered at 3 degree levels. The most popular programme is the Bachelor of Fisheries Science Honours under which the institute takes 44 students. In the postgraduate level of education, the college offers a variety of special options in M.F.Sc which include A\quaculture, Fish Biotechnology, Aquatic Environment Management as well as Fish Processing Technology among others. The Ph.D. programmes include Aquaculture, Fish Nutrition and Feed Technology, Fisheries Resource Management among others.
