The District Institute of Education and Training Idukki, Situated at Idukki has been set up in the year 1992 and is a solo institution exclusively to prepare teachers. This institution for boys and girls is situated in Thodupuzha, Kerala and serves an important function as preparer of future teachers. DIET Idukki is recognised by National Council for Teacher Education, thus it follows national norms regarding teacher education. The institute for itself is small, occupying a total area of 2 acres of land, thereby affording that personal like touch to the students. DIET Idukki caters 75 students’ total enrolment and 8 faculty members which make a student-teacher ratio is most acceptable to one, enhancing care and quality teaching learning.

DIET Idukki has been equipped with various of facilities to the students for providing a better learning environment. To support students who attend the institute and to serve as a fundamental resource for aspiring teachers, the I SE21 has a library. There are school amenities such as playgrounds, which enhances the students health wise as well as it enhances their teaming abilities. Good IT facilities have been installed in the college so the future teachers are ready for the world of computers. Departmental laboratories for instance offer practical teacher student experience, as training for development of teacher practicality. Also, DIET Idukki has provided hostel facilities for boys and girls thus enabling the students residing in different corners of the region to find accommodation easily.

In fact the main course that the institute mainly teaches is D.El.Ed. This is a full time program that takes two years and it prepares the students to teach at the lower classes. DIET Idukki has been sanctioned to admit 50 students for this course and intake only a limited number of prospective teachers every year. The D.El.Ed program covers all these aspects and more in a professional manner that will enable the graduates to be professionally sound in theorem skills when they join service to teach in our primary schools.

DIET Idukki follows the merit-based admission system that is embraced by its doors to admit only the right prospects in teaching profession. Seats are filled according to the percentage score in the qualifying exam and/or through an entrance test if any. It is also noteworthy that a particular procedure of selection may be adjusted with reference to the peculiarities of the Kerala state government. This approach help to control the standard of student who intakes in the program so as to maintain the quality of DIET Idukki’s teacher education program.

The District Institute of Education and Training, Idukki, is a self-contained institute focusing on teacher education. Situated in Thodupuzha, Kerala, DIET Idukki conducts a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) course, making students eligible to teach in elementary schools. This institute is affiliated with the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). Admission is purely based on merit.

DIET Idukki follows the most appropriate process of selecting students for its D.El.Ed program. The total intake is 75, and 50 seats are allocated for the D.El.Ed course. Admissions are performed every year in terms of the academic calendar followed by Kerala. For admission to DIET Idukki's D.El.Ed program, the minimum qualification required is the completion of the 10+2 or equivalent examination.
