The journey of the Government Dental College and Hospital Srinagar (GDCH) begins in 1986 to provide education and health care in the domain of dentistry. Affiliated to the University of Kashmir, Shereen Bagh, Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir this college occupies a 5.84 Acres campus. Recognised by the Dental Council of India, GDCH provides a wide array of Courses in dental 4 courses are at the degree levels in total. Having a total student strength of 178, along with a faculty strength of 99, the college enforces the healthy proportion of students to faculty, thus providing individual care and education.
Today GDCH has many up-to-date facilities to meet its academic and clinical needs at the institution. The BDS programme which is fundamental to dental education currently has a sanctioned seating capacity of sixty three. At the postgraduate level there are MDS programmes proposed in Prosthodontics, Oral Medicine, Orthodontics, Conservative Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Periodontology, Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and Oral Microbiology; each Programme has 03 seats. However, the college offers a Diploma in Dental Hygienist course for all the sectors related to dental healthcare training.
The admission process in Human at GDCH is quite competitive and a powerful one. The BDS programme requires NEET to qualify for the candidate. However, for the MDS programmes, admission is granted after students sit for the NEET MDS examination.
