GEC Barmer is a relatively a young institution, established in 2018 as part of BARC Scheme, targeted to fulfil the need of quality technical education in Rajasthan. Situated at Jaisalmer Road, National Highway 68, Barmer, this affiliated college has reached the extent of the educational fame in the area rather promptly. Recognised by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) GEC Barmer provides, a variety of academic programs in engineering that can help students learn the traits and fields required in these competetively growing technological fields of the world.

The college has effectively acquired or developed various infrastructure to support it academic objectives. The Library and Information Centre (LIC) is the campus information hub, and its vision is to become the knowledge hub of the campus, accumulating and disseminating information in all disciplines of engineering with especial focus on Petroleum Engineering and Renewable Energy. To foster practical education, GEC Barmer has designed and developed newly constructed laboratories suitable for each department. These commitments also applies to the colleges IT infrastructure to make available latest technological resources for its students. In addition to academic resources, the campus provide the boosters that can help the students to pass their time in a more productive manner. The sports facilities include both indoor and outdoor, and include badminton/ volleyball courts as well as a yoga hall and a gym. To undertake recreational and social activities, students have the college cafeteria whereby delicious freshly prepared meals and snack are served.

At present, GEC Barmer provides seven B.Tech programs in REGULAR mode, which are four years long. These programs encompass a number of disciplines in engineering that are quite broad implying that the college is offering a technical education in its broad sense. The courses offered are in Civil engineering, Electrical engineering, Mechanical engineering, Electronics and communication engineering, Petroleum engineering, Chemical engineering, and the innovative Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning engineering discipline.

The admission process in GEC Barmer is flexible with specific focus on merits for admission of the student. Prospective students can gain entry through two primary routes: on their score in the Joint Entrance Examination JEE Main, or on their 12th standard performance.
