Government Polytechnic, Surajpur, started functioning from the year 2016. This is one of the prime technical institutes situated at Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh. This is an affiliated institution approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The institute provides various diploma courses of different branches of Engineering. The Institute has a focused learning environment with a total student enrolment of 532 and Faculty strength of 10. Government Polytechnic, Surajpur offers three full-time diploma courses, each lasting a duration of three years in the disciplines of Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mining Engineering. Specialised nature of the courses and modern facilities reflect the technical education that the institute provides. 

There are various facilities on the campus of Government Polytechnic, Surajpur, that assure a proper learning environment and overall students' development. Government Polytechnic, Surajpur has well-stocked libraries to give all sorts of material to students for study and references for academic purposes. As far as coping with rapidly developing technology is concerned, the institute is well-equipped in IT infrastructure so as to allow students to be knowledgeable in handling modern tools and industry-relevant software. 

Students who have an inclination towards sports will find the sports facilities of the college most helpful in maintaining a healthy balance between academics and recreation. Laboratories specific to the departments are well equipped for hands-on experience and practical knowledge pertaining to respective fields. The hostel accommodation for both boys and girls is especially provided by the college, thereby making it easier for those admitted from different parts of the region. 

Currently, Government Polytechnic, Surajpur provides three full-time diploma courses that are of three years' duration each. The separate disciplines of engineering provide courses where the students can acquire technical training in diverse fields. The total sanctioned intake for all the courses together is 180 students per year, and in each course, there are 60 seats. With this controlled number of intake, individual attention along with quality education can also be provided to each student. 

The admission procedure for the Government Polytechnic, Surajpur is centralised and conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education, Chhattisgarh. All the aspiring students will have to take the Pre Polytechnic Test (CG PPT) conducted by Chhattisgarh Vyavsayik Pariksha Mandal, CGVYAPAM. This standard test ensures that all the selection processes for all applicants are unfettered and purely merit-based. The PPT will be the prime entrance examination for admission to various diploma programmes offered by the institute.
