About Guru Nanak College of Education, Dalewal

The Guru Nanak College of Education Dalewal was set up in 2003 and is located at Hoshiarpur in the state of Punjab. This co-educational college for boys and girls and is recognised by Panjab University and aims to produce quality teachers. The college is spread over 5 acres of land and is accredited to the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and recognised by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). Currently, the institute has 437 student population and 29 faculty members, The institute has three specialised courses under the field of education, training teachers at different levels.

Guru Nanak College of Education Dalewal has several facilities that complement learning as well as the development process of the students. The campus has arranged the hostels for boys and girls to live comfortably in a hostel if they wish to stay in the campus. Libraries are well-endowed nowadays to contain an enormous amount of materials that may be useful in carrying out academic activities. The college pays a lot of attention to health, maintaining a state of art gym and variety of sports amenities. On pragmatic side of learning, the institute has developed proper laboratory facilities. The latest technologies such as campus wide Wireless Internet Connections guarantees that the students and faculty have fix accesses to the Teaching instructional resources. For containing a gathering or an event that requires the attendance of a huge number of people the institution provides an auditorium. The college also has a health center with first aid kits and pharmacies, a canteen for snacks and drinks and some guests’ quarters for some faculty members and their immediate family.

At present, Guru Nanak College of Education provides three full time programmes all related to teacher education but each covering a different area. This is a four year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed)programme which has a capacity of one hundred students to enable the teachers in training acquire all round education. For the candidate who wants to enhance their knowledge in education, there are fifty seats for Master of Education (M.Ed). Also, the college offers a Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) course where 50 students are admitted to teach in primary schools. 

All these programmes can be finished within two years, and they are based on the combination of the show understanding of teaching knowledge and the display of teaching skills. Per course student enrolment has been registered at an average of 109, while the overall student capacity enrolment is 437, which is ideal for being able to maintain a good student teacher ratio that enhances learning.

Ed programme is done centrally according to merit, calculated on the basis of marks secured in the qualifying examination and/entrance examination in conformity with the policies of the state government. Degree wise Admission Process

B.Ed: The Bachelor of Education programme of Guru Nanak College of Education, Dalewal, has an overall strength of 150 seats. Admission to the Bachelor of Education is strictly made according to the rules and regulations framed by Panjab University and the Punjab Government. 19 seats out of the total are allocated under the Management Quota according to the Punjab Government and Panjab University norms. Those students who are interested in Management Quota seats are required to approach the college directly.

M.Ed: There are 50 seats in the M.Ed course. Admission to the M.Ed course is done according to the norms of Panjab University, Chandigarh. The selection generally considers the academic background of the candidate in his/her B.Ed course and may include an entrance test or interview according to the norms of the university.

D.El.Ed: Admission to the course of Diploma in Elementary Education is also 50 students. Selection to D.El.Ed is carried out on the basis of merit, based on marks obtained in the qualifying test (10+2) and/or entrance test. The method of selection follows the policy of the state government or UT administration.
