Sahibganj College was established in the year 1951 in Sahibganj in Jharkhand. It has been functioning as the constituent college satisfying the academic demand for more than seventh decades. The college occupies a vast tract of about 10 acres of land which affords the best conditions for learning and development. It has got the approval of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and it is affiliated by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). With 41 courses in 10 degree programmes, the college offers a versatile curriculum. The institution enrols a large number of students with 6,607 enrolments with the institute being staffed with 25 hardworking faculty members.

Sahibganj College provides a number of services to create the best learning environment. The centre contains separate hostels for boys and girls, which may serve as convenient living for outstation students. It is a library with a collection of print and non print resources which includes nearly 35000 books out of which around 200 are encyclopedia and 30 are journals for the smooth and efficient conduct of academic activities. To make sure that the students get adequate physical exercise, the college has a fair number of indoor sports and outdoor sports accommodation including cricket, football, volleyball, basketball, table tennis and chess etc. In order to adopt to change in technologies, the institution boasts of 35 computers and free Wi-Fi connectivity in all the compound. Sahibganj College has posted a wide range of academic courses in teachings its students. It offers a blend of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in different fields and specialises in Arts, Science and Business. These include Bachelor’s degrees in Arts (BA) with honours in History, Economics, Political Science, Philosophy, Psychology, Hindi, English, Urdu, Sanskrit, Maithili and Santhali. In the science stream, this college offers B.Sc programmes with specialisation in Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Zoology, Geology and Botany. For the students interested in commerce and management there are B.Com and BBA courses. The college also provides professional courses like B.Ed or BCA stands for Bachelor of Computer Application. The postgraduate courses are offered in MA History, Politics Science, Economics, Psychology, Philosophy English, Santhali and Urdu and M.Sc Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics Biology, Geology and Zoology. There are also other interesting and unique adventurous courses offered by the college; these include B.Lib.I.Sc and Advanced Diploma in Computer Applications.

At Sahibganj College, admissions are clearly laid down based on merit basis across the board. According to the admitting policy for most programmes, learners are offered admission depending on the performance in the qualifying exam. But when it comes to the B.Ed programme, the college has a particular process to follow. Students must pass exams together with other candidates in accordance with the State Government and the University criteria that are used for selection of the candidates.
