IIT Courses That Do Not Require Entrance Exams

IITs or Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are amongst the most prestigious institutions in India. Primarily to apply for IITs, students need to appear and successfully clear the entrance examinations such as JEE Mains, JEE Advanced and GATE for postgraduate courses. However, not all IIT courses require students to clear these exams. Students can apply for many programmes and certifications at IITs without appearing for traditional entrance examinations. In this article, we will discuss some of these courses.

IIT Online Certification Courses

NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning)

NPTEL is a platform operated by IITs and IISc, offering various online courses in different specialisations such as engineering, humanities and management. Students from any stream can apply, and many of them provide certification after successful completion of the course.

Some of the key highlights of the course are no entrance examination required and free learning material provided by the institute. However, to get a certificate of completion, students have to submit specified fees.

SWAYAM Courses

Swayam is another initiative by the government that provides free online courses from various IITs. Students can apply for courses in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Business Management. No entrance examination is required.

IIT Diploma and Certificate Programmes

IIT Madras Online Degree Programme (BSc in Data Science in Programming)

IIT Madras offers an online BSc degree in Data Science in Programming. There is no age limit and anyone who has completed their 10th with English and Maths as compulsory subjects is eligible to apply. The programme also offers a 100 per cent scholarship for those in need of financial assistance.

Certificate Programs in AI, Machine Learning, and Cybersecurity

Almost all the IITs, including IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, and IIT Kanpur offer short-term certification courses of four weeks duration. They can apply for courses in Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and Blockchain. Students can also apply for these courses through platforms such as Coursera, Udemy, and EdX or the official website of the institute.

Executive and Management Programmes

While regular MBA programmes at IITs require entrance examinations such as CAT, some IITs offer executive MBA courses that do not require traditional entrance tests. Admissions are based on work experience and personal interviews. Executive MBA at IIT Delhi and PG Diploma in Business Analytics offered by IIT Kharagpur, IIM Calcutta, and ISI.

While IITs are known for their tough and competitive entrance examinations, they also offer various programmes that do not require JEE Main or GATE scores. Some examples are online courses, certifications and executive programmes. All of these courses are very flexible and offer good learning potential.
