Nautical Science courses helps one become Navigation Officer on Merchant Navy ships.
It is a 1 year long Diploma course. The course trains candidates to take on the role of Navigation Officer on Merchant Navy ships. It also covers basics of Marine Technical Knowledge, Safety and Fire Prevention, Communication Skills etc.
Some important subjects covered in this course are-
Apart from theory classes, lab as well as workshop sessions are also present in Diploma in Nautical Science course.

Talking about admission process and eligibility criteria, there are three main things that are taken into consideration- Educational Qualifications, Physical and Medical standards and finally the age of the candidate. Let us focus on each of them in the following sections-
The minimum educational qualification required to pursue this course is 10+2 Science stream schooling with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects. Students should have passed 12th Board examination from a Recognized Board. Minimum marks criteria may exist and is generally around 50-60% marks in Board Examination.
B.Sc. Degree holders (subjects like Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) may also pursue this course. Minimum marks criteria may exist and is generally between 50-60% marks in final year of Degree program.
Engineering (B.E./B.Tech.) Graduates (any branch) may also pursue this course. Minimum marks criteria may exist and is generally between 50-60% marks in final year of Degree program.

The Indian Marine University common entrance examination's previous years cutoff was as follows.
The cutoff of the exam can not be predicted exactly as it depends on various factors like:
Difficulty of the Examination, Number of candidates appearing for the examination etc..

IMU organizes IMU CET to offer admission into various UG and PG courses in Marine Engineering .
For Under Graduate degree such as B.Sc
The candidate should have cleared his/her 10+2 level exams or its equivalent from a recognized board with Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and English subjects with minimum aggregate of 60% marks in PCM and minimum of 50% in English subject. Therefore for commerce student, it is not applicable.
FOr Under graduate degree such as B.Tech the requirements are same.
Hence, Physics, chemistry are required while applying, therefore, commerce students can not apply for it.
