If you want to go for Archaeology I would always recommend you to go for the BA(Hons.) course in History. This course will give you in depth knowledge of the field of History which will laterwards help you coup up with the Archeology courses.

BA History is a generalized course which will be not that depth as compared to that of BA History Hons.

Archaeology is an amazing subject one can opt for.
Its so much fun and interesting at the same time. Well ones analytical and learning power should be little high and skilled to approach this subject more accurately.
Now if i talk about subjects you can pursue in order to become an archaeologist you should basically opt for courses like history, anthropology, sociology, geography atleast one requires a bachelors degree in any of these to further complete their masters and research in this field.
Also one should try exploring different places and ancient drives are must to understand this subject in depth.

  2. build a solid foundation for a career in archaeology.
  3. A bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Geology or History, and a master's degree in Archaeology and Historical Studies is required to qualify and work as an Archaeologist. A Ph.


  • An archeologist requires a master's degree or PhD in archeology.
  • They would normally do field work for 12-30 months while obtaining a PhD and many master's degrees may also require field work hours as well.
  • Experience in some form of archaeological field work is usually expected, by employers.

You have to do bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Geology or History, and a master's degree in Archaeology.  And you have to do Historical Studies is required to qualify and work as an Archaeologist.

Hello,

To get a job as an archaeologist you first need to complete your class 12th with good marks. After that you have to apply for entrance exam for Bachelor of Arts in Indian History Culture and Archaeology  or Bachelor of Arts in Archaeology and Museology.

Some of the top colleges offering these degrees are -

  • Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi
  • The Delhi Institute of Heritage Research & Management, New Delhi
  • Institute of Archaeology, Archaeological Survey of India, New Delhi

You need to meet the eligibility criteria for these colleges and qualify its entrance exam to get admission. After completion of your 3 year bachelors degree you will have an opportunity to join companies like Archaeological Survey of India, Indian Council of Historical Research , Some of the National Heritage Agencies or Museums. You can either opt campus placement of go for off campus placement.
