Hello Harshvardhan Desai
Here are steps to become automobile Engineer
A few schools offer 4-year bachelor's degree programs in transportation design, and some have programs in industrial design with a transportation design concentration. Typical coursework includes design fundamentals, 2-D and 3-D drawing skills, car technology, research skills development, model-making, and computer aided drafting or CAD. Since both transportation and industrial design programs are rare, admission can be quite competitive. Students can consider earning an associate's degree in industrial design before applying to an automobile design program. Students should begin building a car design portfolio during this time.
A professional portfolio of high-quality, innovative work is essential throughout the career of an automobile designer. It is used to show the designer's creativity and capabilities and can help with gaining employment and/or entrance to graduate school. Bachelor's programs include creation and development of a portfolio, but it's important to keep working on and adding to it over time.
Job prospects for graduates holding an automobile design degree come mainly from car manufacturers and design companies specializing in automotive design. A college with close ties to such companies can be helpful in placing recent graduates. According to the BLS, industrial designers are expected to see a 4% job increase during the 2012-2022 decade, which is slower than average for all occupations. Consumer demand for innovative designs, however, should ensure the continued need for all types of industrial designers.
After completing a bachelor's degree and/or obtaining some professional experience, returning to school to earn a graduate degree in automobile design may demonstrate a designer's dedication to the profession. For example, earning a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Transportation Design advances design skills and contributes to portfolio work. An MFA or Master of Industrial Design (MID) degree program can take 2-4 years and requires rigorous research, emphasizing real-world experience with commercially-oriented projects. Classes, design labs, and internships or externships improve the designer's overall knowledge of design practices and further develop innovation skills, which can lead to career advancement.

Dear Sandip,
To become a automobile designer you need to be innovative with your ideas and at the same time practical too. Many things should be kept in mind before designing a car such as environment friendly, affordable, more technological, appealing to customers, etc. The skills you need are creativity, math and science, computer aided skills, etc. You should have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in product design or automotive design.
Even with the advent of electrical vehicles, automobile engineering will still have a lot of scope. It takes automobile engineers as well to make electric cars. In the case of electric vehicles, it is the internal combustion engine that gets replaced. Everything else will remain more or less the same. These things will still remain in the ambit of automobile engineering. Another aspect is that even though gear boxes might get phased out, there will still be the body, aerodynamics strength and weight, breaking system, suspension, cooling and ventilation. Automobile engineers will continue to work on these systems in the future and come up with new and innovative ideas. There are many other things that require an automobile engineer, from designing to industrialization like electric motor mechanical parts, upper body parts, suspension, installation of plants etc. Basically, the only difference between an electric car and conventional car is the propulsion system and everything else remains the same and requires automobile engineers to work on them.
· More career prospects after automobile engineering
Automobile Engineers are highly sought after both in India and abroad. The automobile industry as such is very big hence the job opportunities are great as well. There are great employment opportunities in Private National and Multinational Automobile companies, Service Stations, Private Transport companies, Defense Services and Self Employment by setting up Automobile Garage or Maintenance Workshop.
· Fields in which job opportunities are
There are many industries or fields that offer job opportunities to automobile engineering. One such field is designing, development and manufacturing of vehicles. Creation of blueprints of vehicles and their components. Maintenance and Services Engineers in automobile workshops, aircraft industries, aviation, marine vessels, and diesel power stations.
· Positions that an automobile engineer can hold
Automobile Technicians
Bike Mechanics
Diesel Mechanics
Car Mechanics
Automobile Designer
Executive and Managerial Positions
Pay scale
The pay scale of an automobile engineer depends on many factors like qualification, organization
in which they work and also location. Somebody with a master’s degree and specialization
would get paid more. Nature of the organization is also very important. A private sectore job
would pay more than a government job. Also, abroad the options are much higher so as the pay.
It also depends on your alumni and credentials. Students from NIT’s and IIT’s usually land good
jobs and also earn more than somebody who studied in a private college.
Initially the salary for beginners would be approximately 15, 000 – 20, 000 per month. An
experienced engineer can earn more than or up to 1 lakh per month.
Some of the great companies to work in are given below:

Hi, Neha Reddy, this is Jakka Vamsi Krishna
Talent and training in mechanical engineering will provide you with a number of hard skills such as computer design, simulation and testing. You'll also need a thorough grounding in accepted industry standards.
But in addition to hard skills, you'll need a number of soft skills. When you look at job postings and respond to them, it's just as important to be aware of these requirements as your hard skills. Without strong qualifications in both, it's hard to be successful at an optimal level.
Similarly, you need to point out soft skills in your materials when searching for a job. Cover letters and resumes need to include both. You need to interview with examples of times you've demonstrated excellent hard skills and soft skills.
Read on to find the top soft and other skills that employers are looking for in their mechanical engineers.
1. Problem-solving
A portion of every mechanical engineer's day involves solving client problems. Mechanical engineering is often figuring out how to make mechanical or thermal devices better, more efficiently or have different capabilities. Solving the problem requires hard skills, of course, but it also requires strong analytical, which is a soft skill.
2.creativity
Mechanical engineer often develops and design products. In the case of mechanical engineers, products can be anything from robots to environmentally friendly power generation. Conceptualizing, developing and inventing entirely new products calls for creativity.
3. Clear Communication abilities
First, some of our colleagues may not be trained as engineers. You will need to communicate priorities, issues and needs clearly.
Second, clients will need to be walked through the workings of the exciting new products you and your team will develop. You will need to explain to non-engineers how what and why of new products and processes.
4. Collaboration
Almost all engineering roles take place in a collaborative environment. You will likely work on a team and need to be an excellent team player. You need to collaborate effectively with a broad range of people.
You'll also need to collaborate across functions. Many mechanical engineers work with other types of engineers, architects or IT professionals. The teams can be very diverse. Top job candidates exhibit an ability to collaborate across functions and with diverse sets of people.
Besides these,
1. Maintain GPA above 8
2. Do the projects
3. Attend the seminars and workshops.
4. Do socialistic activities like a member to make a wish foundation etc..
Hello Akhila,
To be honest, it will not be a very good question to leave your B. Tech course midway like this because you have invested 2 years of your life in it and even if you sit for company interviews now you will question about why you left your B. Tech course midway and that might also become a reason for the rejection of your resume by companies.
Though if you still want to stop studying B. Tech then you can look for jobs online. There are various portals available these days where you can apply for various jobs. Prepare a good resume and upload in some sites like Naukri.com or linkedIn, etc.
Though the best decision will be to stay motivated and do some fun courses related to your stream to keep yourself interested so that you can finish this course successfully if you can do that then much better jobs are waiting for you.
Hope this helps.
Hii Eshban Morde, Since Mechanical is a vast field and separated in different lines like the design, thermal, fluids, automobile, manufacturing, production, quality and so on....Your career should be totally based on your personal Interest. I hope that you have done some certification courses in those two years. If yes, then those certification courses will add up some extra points on your CV.
If you like designing and you are good with drawing then you should go for CAD & CAM software like Auto CAD, CATIA, CREO, SOLID WORKS, SOLID EDGE, NX, MASTERCAM etc. there are so many in the market, you can pick 2-3 software.
Also, note that there is a new industry which has emerged which is known as 3D printing. It has grown now and has future scope in India.
If you are interested in doing technical then go for government jobs or maybe PSU, as mechanical is a core branch there are lots of opportunities in the public and government sector.
Even if you think that you need more knowledge about your Branch then select your domain which you want to master and go for Post graduation.
Hope this will help you!
All the best!!!
