calculate the molar diameter of he from its van der Waals constant b=81 mL mol

Manasi Kadam 30th Sep, 2020

Hi,

Since it is given that van der waal's constant

b= 81 ml/ mol

And we have a formula that goes like

b=4 × volume of 1 mol molecule

b=4Na (4/3πr^3)

Therefore,

r= (3b/16Naπ)^1/3

r=(243/302.59×10^23)^1/3

r~(0.80×10^-23)^1/3

r~ 4.3×10^-7 cm

D= 8.6×10^-7 cm (approx)

Hope it helps!
