colleges
Hello student,
If you’ve scored 85 percentile in JEE Main and you belong to the general category, then it will be tough to get admission in colleges through the JoSAA Counselling. However, if you belong to reserved categories like the ST, then you would be able to get admission based on your percentile and category in a lot of colleges, for example NIT Delhi, Birla Institute of Technology (both Patna and Mesra), and different IIITs and GFTIs.
If you belong to the general category, then you can either apply for different state counsellings and university counsellings, or my suggestion would be to go ahead and give the second attempt since you will have a chance to improve your score and get admission in different top colleges based on your improved score.

Based on your percentile it will be tough to get admission into colleges through the JoSAA Counselling. But you have two options at hand. One is that you can apply in different state counsellings, for example, if you applied in Uttarakhand counselling, then you could be eligible for many colleges, such as Institute of Technology Roorkee, College of Engineering Roorkee, Bishamber Sahai Institute of Technology, Roorkee, etc.
The second option, which I highly recommend, is that you should go for the second attempt. Then you will have a scope for improvement and if you score well, then you will be eligible for a lot of colleges in the JoSAA counselling. So prepare well and aim high
If you've scored 79.64 without preparation, then you must remember that after doing good preparation, you can achieve wonders.
The second attempt can always be considered as a chance to do better and improve your score. So my suggestion to you is that use the upcoming months well to prepare your best. Study hard and you can do very well. Have faith in yourself.
However, based on your percentile, it will be difficult to get admission in any college based on the JoSAA Counselling. So giving a second attempt to improve your score would help you in getting admission chances in great colleges like NITs and that too in top branches like CSE.

Hello Student,
Based on your percentile, you have tough chances to get into colleges through the JoSAA counselling. However, you do have chances to apply into different state counselling and university counsellings and get admission into different colleges in this percentile, or even get into different private universities.
Talking about the second session, then you can definitely do well and improve. If you can score 79.64 percentile without any preparation, then you can definitely score very well if you prepare well. You have a few months at hand, I recommend that you sue them well and prepare as well as you can, so that you score good in the second attempt and open your doors to the possibility of getting a great score and the opportunity to get into top NITs core branches. Keep yourself focused on the goal to score well. All the best!
