I am class12th right now. Want to pursue Company Secretary course. Can I do it with B. Com(hons)? Will there be enough scope for this combo?

saumyash9_6665013 Student Expert 16th Jun, 2019

greetings,

great idea. after the coming of companies act,2013, the scope of CS has increased.

after 12th, it will be better for you to do B.com hons through correspondence and spent maximum time preparing for CS.

if you are delhi based, the coaching centres in laxmi nagar(east delhi) are best for CS coaching.

you are taking coaching for law but it isnt a part of the syllabus of CS. only mercantile law/ business law i.e contracts, companies act. sales of good act. partnership. negotiable instruments etc are a part of the syllabus.

hope this helps.

good luck

Is ACCA a good option to choose as career ? Is ACCA is worthy or Company Secretary course is more worthy?

Preksha Ghanathay 14th Jun, 2019

Hello Gauri,
The scope for ACCA in India is growing at a tremendous pace. ACCA members are securing professional jobs all across the countries in companies such as EY, PwC, Deloitte, KPMG, Grant Thornton, BDO, Accenture, McKinsey, Tata, Barclay's, Standard Chartered, etc.
Profiles for ACCA members in India include Accounting Advisory, Risk Advisory, Corporate Finance, Audit and Assurance, Internal Audit, Taxation, Investment Advisory, etc
DIFFERENCE:
the courses mentioned have very less overlap ; further while CS deals with Indian laws and procedures, ACCA being an international course won't gel with it.

What should take in Commerce after 10 to become CS company secretary ?

Preksha Ghanathay 12th Jun, 2019

Hello Janhvi,
The Company Secretary course can not be pursued just after 10th. The minimum educational qualification required to be eligible for the course is +2, from a recognized board of studies. Candidates with a bachelor's degree in any stream, except fine arts, can enroll directly for the Executive Program.
Opt for commerce stream and work hard to achieve good results in 12th. Once you are done with your 12th you may register with ICSI and can complete ICSI course. I would suggest concentrate on class 11 and 12 currently and try to build good foundation for ICSI course. Am sure if you keep it simple, one day you will be a CS.

If I want to do company secretary with my graduation. So what will be better should I do CS with B.COM or CS with BBA?

Krushnalee Surve 28th May, 2019
Hello Gauri,

The decision of taking up B. Com or BBA while you try to pursue Company Secretary is entirely up to you. If you are interested in accounting and finance, B. Com should be more suitable for you, however if you plan on getting a managerial education and learning more about business administration, BBA is a better choice.

The B.Com course is designed to provide you with knowledge of a wide range of commerce related subjects such as Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Economics, Management, and Law. This course teaches you analytical and problem solving skills in the students and make them able to take quick decisions and to plan & implement efficient solutions.

BBA is a professional degree course, and is imparted by lesser universities or colleges when compared to B.Com. BBA is outlined to provide leadership and entrepreneurial qualities among the students. It is more focused on business skills development. Subjects include, but not limited to Marketing Management, Operations Management, Business Policies, Behavioural Techniques, Capital Markets.

Both courses are equally good and can be done along with preparations for CS, hope this information helps you decide what course to pick.

Can a company secretary work abroad?

Divyyanaa Hazarika 25th May, 2019

Dear Aspirant,

The course and syllabus that is studied over by a CS in India is very country specific. The information studied, the laws learnt are all in accordance to the Indian system. Every country has its own set of laws, corporate laws, taxation laws, etc. These laws are not universal i.e. they are not same for every country in the world. Thus, whatever a CS studies in India (native nation) would be irrelavant in Abroad. That's why it is tough for a CS to get a job abroad.

If a  CS aspires to get a job in Abroad, he/she will have to clear certain papers through the medium of examinations. He/she would have to select the country where he/she wants to work in and accordingly study papers related to the system of that country.

There are many flexible job opportunities in the South Asian countries that accepts CS through ceetaic entrance like examinations. Good luck!
