To become a cost accountant an aptitude for general mathematics and statistics is required. Your graduation must be in accounting or business administration with accounting as a major. Also those candidates who have passed ICWAI/ICAI can directly enroll to intermediate course without doing the foundation course.

Cost Accountants work job responsibilities include: 1. They Coordinate product cost process which includes calculating, reviewing, to analyze machine and labor hours, handle overhead costs and allocations, production rates, raw material costs and manufacturing process changes. 2. They analyze actual manufacturing expenses and prepare the periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs. 3. They design and understand cost flow to determine proper job order costing. 4. They provide management and various departments with detailed reports for use in making business decisions and controlling expenditures. 5. They manage and prioritize multiple projects and tasks. 6. They maintain files and documentation thoroughly and accurately keeping in mind the company policies. 7. They maintain confidential data as well.
