Richa Gautam 25th Mar, 2018
Eligibkity of BDS says that:
  • The students, who have passed the 10+2 examination withscience streamand have had Physics, Chemistry and Biology and English in 12thstream, may go for the BDS course.

  • It is the course which will be having hands on training in the field of dentistry for the duration of five years. The students will get the chance to interact with the patient and will get the practical knowledge of the diseases.

  • The students have to score minimum50% marks(40% in the case of reserved category) in plus two and have to appear for an entrance examination conducted by the respective authorities.

So according to this you cant go for medical if you didnt had PCB in 12th.

Is it right decision to do BDS in present scenario there is a huge dentist unemployed

Anonymous 20th Mar, 2018

Dear Pramod,

Choosing  a career all depends on your skill and interest. There is always a good scope for a right candidate who have desired skills and knowledge.

There is a good scope of BDS but MBBS has better scope.

If you are planning to go for medical/dental exams you should first try to get into medical colleges as entrance exams is same but the cut off of medical colleges is more.

At last, it all depends on your skill and interest and a type of career you want to do in future.

Good Luck!!

My son is dentist he wants to pursue for abroad study so for subject wise test of gre he has go for bio subject only or chemistry too

Shraya Singh 17th Aug, 2018

Hello,

The GRE subject test requirements will vary from program to program. Most programs only require a GRE subject test in Biology when it comes to dentistry and some don't even require an additional GRE subject test. Apart from the GRE subject tests if required, your son will also have to subjmit GRE General test scores.

If i choose to be a dentist in punjab what is average salary and competition?what are perks and cons?

Dr Parmanand Agarwal 24th Jan, 2018
Hi Max, As per your query about dental competition and salary, I would like to tell that it varies from urban to rural setup, government sector and private sector.... In government sector salary after bds varies from 25,000 to 35000 with seniority it increases ... In private practice it is quite variable from 10,000 to 1,50000...
Regarding it is increasing day by day in private sector... More in urban than rural..
Benefits - Dr in front of name,  social status, if established you can earn a decent amount, mds is not so much required in private practice...
Demerits- competition, if practice not good it's hard to earn and maintain the social status of being a doctor

Hopefully it helps
