For first year you can buy books 2nd hand since engineering books are costly or you can ask your seniors from books.

Every college has different syllabus but for maths and some electrical subjects remain the same.

You can buy BS Grewal for Mathematics which will help you till the second year, for other subjects I may advise you to check your subjects there are refrence books written below the subjects.

Be good with simulation softwares (MATLAB, PSIM, PSCAD, ETAP etc) and programming languages(C, matlab, dsp) will be enough to get you a job in an industry provided you have good marks in academics. you can apply for jobs on any website and the profession is also in demand.

There are many companies which do not see your marks there only see your graduation level marks don't worry about the marks if you have a skill you will find good company even top company your marks don't design your capability your skill and hence your skill you will get good company....

if you want to seat in spot round of ju you need to cancel the admission for power engineering in ju. see as you are already occupied a seat in ju , so you cannot seat in spot round of ju.

however if you have required number you can change the stream after first year, because syllabus is same for all stream in first year. but you need to bring really good marks of cgpa 8.5.

I would like to inform you that since Jadavpur University is the best college in Kolkata under Wbjee, placement for Power Engineering is pretty good than compared to any other college in kolkata. However , compared to some other branches in Jadavpur like CSE, IT or MECH , it is a little less compelling.
