Hello Suruthi, Greetings from Careers360.com!
NIFT exam is necessary only if you want to join in National Institute of Fashion Technology, Chennai. If you wish to join in any other college, just follow the procedure of the particular college and apply for it. Some institutes may conduct an entrance exam of their own while most of it will be based on direct admission process only.
Hope this helped.All the best!
Hello,Priya
In my opinion both merchandising and fashion design are equally good.
However basic knowledge of merchandising is covered while learning fashion design.Fashion design requires a lot of creativity, skills, talent to be on the top. One really needs to be passionate about designing to become a good designer.
Merchandising surely is a technical field in fashion ,but fashion merchandisers are experts who know intricate design elements of a design , which I think is better developed after pursuing fashion designing.
Career options
merchandising :
marketing,sales,advertising,fashion promoter,supplier,fashion manager,retail store manager etc.
Fashion design:
Designer,stylist,blogger,advisor,garment construction expert,costume designer,fashion,marketing,merchandising, journalist,illustrator etc.
As you can fashion designing gives more better job perspective than merchandising. So according to me fashion designing is better than merchandising .If your still confused you can opt for bachelors degree in fashion designing and then do masters in merchandising.
Hope your query is answered.

Hello Jyoti,
Interior design is a branch of design that covers the designing of the interiors of a room or building. It includes the development of a concept, up to the actual execution of the design. Your degree will expand your understanding of the human need, user experience, site context, and culture.
Fashion designers create original clothing, accessories, and footwear. They sketch designs, select fabrics and patterns, and give instructions on how to make the products they design.
Both are totally different fields with different requirements. If you have a good knowledge of that field then you can earn a good amount of money.
Hope it helps you
Thank you
