Hello aspirant,

Yes in order to become a geologist you have to take science stream after class 10th. To take up an undergraduate course in Geology, you need to have passed the higher secondary examination in the science stream with any or all of the subjects Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics .

To become a geologist you usually have to complete a degree in science or applied science with a major in geology, geoscience, applied geology, geophysics or earth sciences . To get into these courses you usually need to gain your Senior Secondary Certificate of Education.

To become a petroleum engineer, you must have a bachelor's degree in petroleum engineering. Candidates possessing bachelor's degree in mechanical or chemical engineering can also work in this field but bachelor's degree in petroleum engineering is preferred first.

Normally with a B.S. degree in geology(petroleum option), students go for jobs in the petroleum industry, government, and secondary education in the following petroleum geology or geoscience roles: geoscience technician (computer-, laboratory-, or field-based).

Here are the steps to become Geologist or Research Associate for Geology :
Complete 10+2 examination and then pursue graduation in geology,earth sciences or related field.
After graduation candidate can go for higher studies like M.Sc. and P.h.D in geology as most of the job position requires masters qualification.
You can go for jobs in private sector as geologist on the basis of bachelor's degree in geology.
To be geologist in governmental sector you can appear for combined geo-scientist exam and work as Geologist ,Geophysicist.

To become Geologist after 10+2 you can follow the given steps :
1. You can opt in any one of the Bachelor's degree course from following courses -
B.Sc in Geology , Earth sciences or  B.Sc in environmental sciences
B.Sc (Honours) in Geology
Bachelor of Arts in Geology, Earth sciences, environmental sciences.

If you are  interested for further studies you can pursue
Masters in Science(M.Sc) in Geology and Applied Geology
M.Sc. (Hons) in Geology
Master of Technology in Geology and Applied Geology.
