There is no easy way out to covering mathematics syllabus for someone who is taking a gap year and will be giving JEE Mains exam in 3 months or so. You can follow these guidelines to aid your studies:

Start with the NCERT

NCERT books form the base for the JEE entrance exams, especially for the JEE Main. A common mistake made by many students is to start with reference books directly while their concepts and theoretical knowledge are not very strong.

NCERT books will give you a firm grounding of concepts and, thus, are the best books to start your preparation. It is also worth noting that 60-70% of the JEE Main paper is based on NCERT books. However, they are not enough for practical questions.

Make a routine for yourself.

Nope, not a detailed one. Just a list of the subjects you want to read daily in the upcoming days. Don’t list down what topics you would read.

Get a copy of the syllabus for Mains printed.

This is more of a confidence-boosting thing as you can keep a track of how much you are prepared. Seeing the prepared things crossed off some list helps calm our erratic mindset in the remaining months and helps boost self-confidence.

Solve as many practice papers you can. If you feel you are prepared in a particular subject, go through the previous years question papers and solve them keeping in mind the time you have allotted to that subject for yourself during the actual exam. Don’t focus on the marks you are getting. Focus on improving your speed and accuracy. And that requires a lot of practice. I, for one, had given around 30 full length papers keeping the time in mind. As an added challenge, in some papers, I used to keep 2:30 hrs time instead of the normal 3 hrs time so as to improve on my speed, and it helped a great deal.

If you have a limited time, you can follow these points:

1. Advisably, you should spend 4-5 hours daily for theory revision and finish off theory part. Understand your learning pattern and which chapters you like and in which chapters you need to work more.
2. For next 2-3 weeks make sure that you give one full syllabus JEE Main or Advanced type mock test every alternate day. Spend the remaining part of that day in detailed analysis of the paper and again reading theory. This will further improve your speed.
3. In last 14-15 days, try to solve variety of questions from all the study material available to you.

Board has deleted some portion of the syllabus for the ease of students who will be taking their CBSE Board Exam.Here is the list of the CBSE Class 10 mathematics topics(Algebra and geometry) that are deleted from the original syllabus.

Algebra:

Polynomials-Statement and simple problems on division algorithm for polynomials with real coefficients.

Pair of linear equations in two variables-cross multiplication method.

Quadratic equations-situational problems based on equations reducible to quadratic equations.

Arithmetic progression-Application in solving daily life problem based on sum to n terms.

Coordinate geometry-area of a triangle.

Geometry:

Triangles-Proof of the following theorems are deleted . The ratio of the areas of two similar triangles is equal to the ratio of the squares of their corresponding sides. In a triangle, if the square on one side is equal to sumof the squares on the other two sides, the angle opposite to the first side is a right angle.

Circles-no deletion.

It's a fact that subjects such as algebra, geometry and trigonometry carry an importance weightage in the prestigious CAT examination, but you don't need to just leave your preparations if you are weak in these subjects.

First of all, try looking at your basics and solve the questions from NCERT class 8th to 10th standard which will help you to get your fundamentals correct, and then gradually moves towards the entrance books and try solving sample papers and detect mock test of specific chapters which you feel you are weak at. Always remember to follow one book be it NCERT or SK Goyal. Too many books might confuse you. Because Co ordinate geometry takes time in solving do not lose patience. Start slowly and keep a tab of the ti,e. Thre are many formula that might sound similar and so you might be confused. So write  formula on sticky notes or on a chart so that you can see them and practise them. Do read the test and refer books. Derive each and every formula. Do not move to the next one unless you complete the current one. Also check the solved probles like examples. In the bbeginning, look at the formula and solve it step by step. Later move to solving without seeing the formula.
