can i write upsc optional paper in gujarati language?

ADITYA KUMAR Student Expert 25th Sep, 2021

Hello

Yes, you can write UPSC optional paper answers in Gujarati but in case if you choose any language paper for your optional then you'll have to write your answers in that particular language only.

For example,

If you choose geography as your optional paper then you can write your Geography optional paper answers in Gujarati but if you choose a language paper like Bengali for your optional paper then you will have to write your answers in Bengali ..

Actually,

The UPSC Prelims and Mains examination question paper are set in both English and Hindi except the language papers -A and B in mains examination while prelims examination is objective, Mains examination is subjective and you have the option to write your  answers in English  or in any one of the Eighth Schedule languages .

in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution which consists of  22 languages  listed below:-

-) Assamese

-) Bengali

-) Gujarati

-) Hindi

-) Kannada

-) Kashmiri

-) Konkani

-) Malayalam

-) Manipuri

-) Marathi

-) Nepali

-) Odia

-) Punjabi

-) Sanskrit

-) Sindhi

-) Tamil

-) Telugu

-) Urdu

-) Bodo

-) Dogri

-) Maithili

-) Santhali

To help you for further, here's a brief of UPSC examination pattern

UPSC civil services examination  has 3 stages listed below :-

*prelims exam :- it is objective paper and is of qualifying nature , so you just  need to at least qualify it to be eligible for mains examination, the score /marks obtained by you in your prelims examination is not added up or used in your final merit. Your prelims exam consist of 2 papers: -

-) general studies 1

-) general studies II ( csat )

You get 2 hours for each paper

*Mains exam. :- it is descriptive /written examination . There are a total of 9 papers  which are listed below:-

-) paper A :- compulsory indian language.

-) paper B :- english

-) essay

-) general studies I

-) general studies II

-) general studies III

-) general studies IV

-) optional I

-) optional II

The compulsory indian language and english are qualifying in nature . You just need to qualify them. The marks obtained by you in these two papers will not be counted towards merit list.

*Interview :- After qualifying mains, you have to go through interview round, and it is more of test of your personality rather than knowledge.

For detailed information , I will recommend you to go through our page the link for the same is provided below

sir can i write upsc optional paper in gujarati language?

SREYASHI SEN 25th Sep, 2021

Hey,

You are not prohibited from writing your Mains paper in your regional language by the Union Public Service Commission. Gujarati is an important part of the 8th timetable, and you can use it to write your responses for the GS papers. However, you should keep in mind that this only applies to the Mains and Interview. Initially, you will not be able to select a paper in your preferred language. Along with that, you must write in English in your English paper.

i hope it hels.

Regards

I have the ews certificate issued by gujarat government ( in GUJARATI LANGUAUGE) ,so in phase 2 form of neet 2021 will it be OK as the certificate is in gujarati language or do I have to get it in English language. And can I change my category from general to ews in guajarat state counselling ?

Pragya sarwaiya 11th Jan, 2022

Hi

If you are looking for Gujarat state counseling then then it won't be a problem, as it is in your native language.

But if you are looking for admission in other states through All India counseling then it may create a problem. General language preferred are Hindi and English in most of the states.
