Good morning everyone. I am a student currently pursuing a degree in hotel management at IIHM Pune. I want to join the hospitality industry

Varsha Mohan 19th Mar, 2019

Hi Abhinav,

If you want to become a Hotel Administrator, after completion of your current course a minimum of 2 years of work experience is highly advisable.

I would suggest you to opt for a CHA certification course. It is offered by American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute, which provides credibility to hotel executives.

Pros: Highly recommended

Cons: Recertification is necessary after 5 years.

A Foodservice Management Professional (FMP) credential is another option.

These certification courses would fuel your dream of becoming a hotel administrator. You could opt for the following subjects and skills

Communication Skills (English and Foreign Language/s)

Business Law

Business Ethics

Human Resource Management

Event Management

Public Relations

Travel Management

Nutrition and Food Science

Entrepreneurial Skills

Knowledge of Basic Operations

It would be more helpful if you can provide with details of your Dual Specialization MBA, to help you out more.

Hope this answer is helpful. For further questions, feel free to ask.

Deekshitha 14th Mar, 2019

Hello Aspirant

To get in admission in Travel and tourism management colleges, CAT, MAT, GMAT , ATMA, XAT, NIT are the main entrance exam for various prestigious government and private colleges . The concepts and syllabus for all these entrance exams are quite similar which include Logical and Analytical reasoning ,English language and grammar based aptitude questions, quantitative aptitude section which comprosises of algorithms and mathematics questions and General knowledge questions. The weightage for each topic may slightly differ but each and every exam tests the conditates based on their logic, language, arithematic aptitude.

For the preparation of entrance exam I would suggest you to focus on previous years papers of the entrance exams. Your main focus should be on English, Quantitative section from these papers because it will help you to practice regularly which aids to score high .

Read editorials from Indian Express or The Hindu to improve your english and also to obtain more knowledge about the current affairs. Wren and Martin for the English grammar. CAT by Arun Sharma is reliable for quantitative aptitude and also refer RD Sharma of 9th and 10th standard, for general awareness try Competition In Focus magazine's weekly edition and download a general awareness app and try to be consistent in reading and revision. For analytical reasoning purchase MK Pandey's analytical reasoning.

Find mocktest papers and attempt all of them in time limit, because more than anything time management is important to be your best. so try doing the paper again and again and Focus on english and anlytical reasoning as it takes time.

You can opt for online coaching classes too to understand all the concepts with expert help and to use your time effectively.

Hardwork and consisteny can achieve everything.

best wishes
