Hello, can any one tell me how to become an IAS officer? what exams we should write. And the syllabus is same for all the exams?? if we take computer science and Engineering in my Graduation we can Eligible for Writing IAS Exams?? Kindly Tell me.!
Hello,
First of all to become IAS Officer you have to appear for UPSC Civil Service Exam, in 2018 the last rank allotted to IAS for general category was 92, this differs in case one belongs to reserved category, And yes, even with a degree in computer science and engineering you will be eligible to appear for the exam as there is no barrier of belonging to specific stream/ subject combination or even aggregate factor for that matter is not important in this exam, you have to be 21 years old and can appear even in the final year of graduation, UPSC is conducted in three phases mainly such as
Preliminary is the first Stage, it's a MCQs based exam with two papers and each one consists of 200 marks, prelims numbers are not added to final list, you just need to score the required cut offs against your respective category.
First paper is GS Paper-I which consists of the following topic such as History of India and Indian national movement, Indian and World geography, Economic and social development- sustainable development, poverty, inclusion demographics, social sector initiatives etc,Indian polity and governance-constitution,political system,Current Events nationally and Internationally, General Science,General Issues on environmental ecology, biodiversity and climate change .
Second Paper is CSAT which is qualifying by nature, you need to score only 33% which is 66 marks out of 200, it includes following topics such as basic numeracy, comprehension, logical reasoning and analytical ability, general mental ability, decision making and problem solving, interpersonal skills including communication skills.
Mains is a second stage which it's more of a subjective type, you are required to write answers for Four General Studies Paper such as
- GS-I includes Indian Heritage and Culture, History and Geography of the World and Society,
- GS-II includes Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International Relations,
- GS-III includes Technology, Economic Development, Bio-Diversity, Environment, Security and Disaster Management,
- GS-IV includes Ethics, Integrity, and Aptitude
- Two Optionals
- One Essay,
- Two Language Paper
In total there are nine papers in Mains, and each paper is of 250 marks, total adds up to 1750 marks.
Personality Test is the last stage which consists of 275 marks.
One thing important to remember here is even though Prelims is MCQs based while Mains is descriptive one, an integrated approach towards preparation is always recommended, there is definitely considerable overlap with the subjects, but since Mains is writing based it's important that you have at least the basic knowledge of all the topics, you don't have to be an expert but a strong foundation is required here, and as I said don't ever think I'll prepare for prelims and then mains after I qualify first stage, this is not at all right manner when it comes to preparation of UPSC, the first thing is always go through the syllabus, this will enable you to know what to read and what to skip, and this same knowledge of syllabus will help you in choosing topics when it comes daily newspaper reading where you will know what are all the important topics, and thereafter go through NCERTs, and then move towards standard books, previous year papers, practicing answer writing, applying test series etc, you will come to this stage obviously once you start the preparation.

salary of IAS officer from beginning to ending . per month in Indian rupees
The salary of the IAS officer is entirely dependent on how much promotions he/she get during the tenure of his/her service. So telling the final salary is unpredictable. Now in the beginning , after joining the service an IAS is Rs.56,100 (DA+TA+HRA are extra & depends on the category of the place where posted).
Now when the IAS officer becomes Additional Magistrate after 5 - 8 years of service then the salary becomes Rs.67,700 (DA+TA+HRA are extra & depends on the category of the place where posted).
Now when the IAS officer becomes District Magistrate after 9-12 years of service then the salary becomes Rs.78,800 (DA+TA+HRA are extra & depends on the category of the place where posted).
*On further promotions may occur depending on the promotions and the tenure of the service. If the officer have a service period of 37+ years then he/she can get a salary of Rs. 2,50,000 being the Central Cabinet Secretary of India. This is the highest post that can be achieved as an IAS.
** All the figures I have provided are monthly salaries and have been collected as per internet research.
I hope this answer helps. All the very best for your future endeavors!
What group we want to take to be an IAS officer
Hi
Your profile suggest that you are in class 10th right now .
So, I am guessing that you are asking about the stream you should take after your 10th for 10+2.
You can choose any of science ,commerce or arts stream based on your interest after your 10th for your 10 +2 and then for graduation if you want to become an IAS officer.
This is because,
to become an IAS officer you need to clear UPSC civil services examination and to be eligible for UPSC examination there is no compulsion to have done 10+2 in a particular stream , also there's no compulsion to be a graduate in a particular subject, all you need to be eligible is that you should be a graduate in any discipline , so you are free to do 10+2 and graduation in any subject.
But yes,
choosing Arts or the humanities in your 10+2 and graduation can be really helpful for your UPSC examination, this is because in Arts you will be learning subjects like history , polity etc which are a part of the UPSC syllabus so it will help you in your upsc examination.
To help you further here's a brief of your UPSC exam
UPSC civil services examination has 3 stages listed below :-
*prelims exam :- it is objective paper and is of qualifying nature , so you just need to at least qualify it to be eligible for mains examination, the score /marks obtained by you in your prelims examination is not added up or used in your final merit. Your prelims exam consist of 2 papers: -
-) general studies 1
-) general studies II ( csat )
You get 2 hours for each paper
*Mains exam. :- it is descriptive /written examination . There are a total of 9 papers which are listed below:-
-) compulsory indian language.
-) english
-) essay
-) general studies I
-) general studies II
-) general studies III
-) general studies IV
-) optional I
-) optional II
The compulsory indian language and english are qualifying in nature . You just need to qualify them. The marks obtained by you in these two papers will not be counted towards merit list.
*Interview :- After qualifying mains, you have to go through interview round, and it is more of test of your personality rather than knowledge.
So, if you manage to sail through all the three stages then congratulations you can become an ias officer depending upon rank obtained by you in UPSC civil services examination ,your preference of services and your category .

I want be an IAS officer. so, what should I do for the preparation of upsc after 12th?
Hi,
In college you need not put much pressure on yourself. Enjoy the college life, and study the course you are enrolled into. Side by side you can pick up subjects on weekends or whenever you get time. Pick the subjects you are not fully aware of maybe history, maybe civics. Study side by side. Do this for the first two years, in 3rd year you can look for weekend IAS coaching, if available. Study there, and participate in test series. Through this, by the time you graduate you will be ready to give your UPSC exam.
Which is the best group after 10th Class CEC MPC, HEC, MEC, BIPC... etc... My passion and destiny is to become an IAS OFFICER... plz reply soon waiting for ur reply....
Hello,
If you're wholly focused on becoming IAS then you should choose humanities stream, as this will help you in your preparation part in the sense you will already be acquainted with subjects such as history, geography, political science, economics etc, as all these are part of UPSC syllabus for GS paper as well as optional and in future if you choose to do graduation in any of the aforementioned subjects, then your subject choice will be aligned with your preparation process, however if you have inclination towards any other career choice, you can go ahead with that also, in general there is no restriction to belong to any stream for upsc exam, candidates from any discipline can appear and diverse backgrounds candidates qualify these exams such as engineering, medical, commerce etc, so in case you want to have a back plan if you're not completely sure at this moment, you can choose it, and later on you can appear for upsc.
Can students of medical college become IAS officer and can give they UPSC IAS exams to become IAS officer ?
Hello aspirant
Hope you are doing good one thing I want to tell you that to become IAS officer you must clear UPSC civil services examination.
To be eligible for this examination you must satisfy the minimum eligibility criteria and according to your questions yes you are eligible to give this exam Aaj the minimum eligibility criteria is to do graduation from any recognised University in any stream.
There is no need to be a graduate in any particular discipline you must be graduated from any stream and from any recognised University so so the degree like MBBS BMS BHMS from any medical college is eligible to give UPSC CSE examination.

Thank you!
is IAS officer earns 7-10 lakhs per month because they take corruption ? is it true..?
This is not at all the truth and should not think like that about IAS officer. Being an IAS officer is a reputed job which one secures after so much of hardwork and studies. As it is a Grade A type job, the salary is provided accordingly. The basic pay scale ranges from 56100 to 250000 with time. So the salary ranges from INR 56100 to INR 132000 per month in the starting only. It increases with years and your experience. So, there's nothing like corruption or bribe in this case.
Hope you understand.
Good luck!
