I am doing my graduation from IGNOU and also doing a full-time job. Will my experience be counted as work ex in IIMs?

Abhinav Singh 23rd Feb, 2024

Hello Aspirant,

When applying for admission into any B school or IIMs across India for their MBA Programme, please note that they do not consider work experience gained during your Under-graduation even if you are pursuing your graduation from IGNOU or any other Open university.

74% in 10th and 76.8% in 12th from ST category, doing graduation now in management. Will it be possible to get into the top 3 IIMs?

Tanya Gupta 6th Feb, 2024

Hello,

Getting into the top 3 IIMs is extremely competitive and they have high standards for academic performance and CAT scores. While your 10th and 12th percentages are decent, they may not be sufficient to guarantee admission to these top institutes.

H owever, it's important to remember that admission decisions are not solely based on academics. Yo ur CAT score, work experience, extracurricular activities, and overall profile will also play a significant role. So, you still have a lot of areas to excel to get into IIMs. Work hard and nothing will be impossible.

hope this helps,

Thank you

i got 95.4 percentile in cat 2023 but my sectional cutoff of just one -dilr- is not clear got 68 percentile. can i expect any call from new or baby iims ? (specifically iim udaipur)

Yash 30th Oct, 2024

Candidates seeking admission to the new or baby IIMs for their PGP/ MBA programme are required to meet the minimum overall and sectional cutoffs in order to get the WATPI/ GDPI call. If candidates could not be able to clear the cutoff even in one section, then they will not be able to get WATPI shortlist.

Assuming that you are a general category candidate, despite obtaining 95.4 percentile in the CAT , you will not get shortlist for further round of the admission process from IIMs as you have obtained 68 percentile in the DILR section.

As IIM Udaipur is the part of the Common Admission Process (CAP), they ask for 94 percentile overall and 73 percentile in all three sections individually. However, if you belong to the reserved category, then there are good chances that you will get a WATPI/ GDPI shortlist as cutoffs for reserved category candidates is quite low as compared to general category candidates.

Hi just wanted to know how is the academic year for IIMs? Is it is similar to other colleges with summer holidays and all those things ir how?

Tanya Gupta 25th Jan, 2024

Hello,

The academic year at IIMs (Indian Institutes of Management) is a bit different from regular colleges. They usually follow a trimester system, which means the academic year is divided into three terms or trimesters. Each trimester is around three to four months long. Instead of long summer holidays, IIMs typically have shorter breaks between trimesters. These breaks are used for internships, projects, or other academic activities. So, while there may not be a traditional long summer vacation.

Hope this helps you,

Thank you

Hello aspirant,

Candidates who have earned any Bachelor's Degree or its equivalent from an accredited university with 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/PwD) or higher may apply for the CAT exam in 2023, subject to the CAT pass mark or eligibility requirements. Prior to beginning their CAT exam 2023 preparation, candidates must first meet the eligibility requirements.

So you are definitely eligible for CAT.

I have scored 75%in 10th and 86 % in 12 th and did graduation in b. com eanked first division. will i get a call from any of the iims if I score 90%itle in cat

Yash 12th Oct, 2024

Hi!

A 90 percentile in the CAT is considered to be a good percentile and might fetch you an Interview call from some of the renowned institutions across the country offering the MBA programme. Every year, IIMs release their minimum sectional and overall cutoffs which candidates must obtain as a minimum eligibility in order to be considered to get an Interview call. However, securing a minimum percentile does not guarantee an Interview call as it depends upon various other factors as well such as overall profile of candidates such as Class 10, Class 12, and Graduation marks, work experience, academic background, and gender diversity, etc. Getting an Interview call from an IIM at 90 percentile in the CAT is a difficult task until you either have an exceptional profile or you belong to reserved category.

i have 84% in 10th 87% in 12th and Im at my 2nd year of btech graduation will i get a call from any top IIMs if i can score about 98%le in CAT.

Yash 4th Oct, 2024

Hi!

Scoring a mere percentile in the Common Admission Test (CAT) does not give you a guarantee to get an interview call from a top IIM. The institutes offering the MBA/ PGP in India, especially the IIMs have a very complex admission process . These institutes give consideration to a lot of factors while giving an interview call to candidates. These factors include CAT score, Class 10, Class 12, and Bachelor's degree marks, work experience, academic, and gender diversity, etc. If you even score somewhere around 98 percentile in the CAT , this will not mean that you will get a confirm call from top IIMs (specially the top 6 IIMs). However, if you belong to the reserved category, then there are good chances of receiving an interview call from top IIMs at 98 percentile. Therefore, the CAT score is not the only criteria but is one of the criteria for admission to the IIMs.

You can predict your CAT percentile by using the CAT Percentile Predictor 2024 .

I am nc obc female with acads as,10th-96%,12th-94%, graduation (physics hons 74%), no work ex but excellent extra curriculars(not sure if they matter). what would be a safe percentile that would fetch me good iims??

Yash 1st Nov, 2024

The Common Admission Test (CAT) is one of the most important components to get admission in any IIM. In order to get admission in IIMs, you must obtain a good percentile in the CAT. There is no specific percentile stated by the IIMs which will give you a 100% WATPI shortlist. However, every IIM has specified a minimum overall and sectional percentile which you must obtain in order to get eligible to get a WATPI shortlist. Even scoring that minimum percentile in the CAT will not give you a guarantee to get an interview call as it depends upon various factors.

IIMs give consideration to a number of factors while giving WATPI call. These factors include CAT score, Class 10, Class 12, and Bachelor's degree marks, work experience, academic, and gender diversity, etc. Your first priority should be to clear both the overall and sectional percentile in the CAT as stated by the individual IIM for the NC OBC category candidates.

If you have no work experience, it will not be a disadvantage as a substantial number of candidates who get admission in the IIMs are freshers with no work experience. You will not get the marks allotted for work experience. Your extra-curricular activities will help you during your Interviews but they will have no role to get you a WATPI shortlist.

The CAT score is not the only criteria but is one of the major criteria for admission. The cutoffs might be lower for NC OBC female category candidates. As you belong to the reserved category, there is a good chance that you might get a WATPI shortlist if you perform well in the CAT. Your priority should be to maximize your CAT score and percentile.

The marks obtained by you in Class 10, Class 12, Graduation, and academic diversity will play a major role to get a shortlist for the WATPI process along with the CAT score and your performance in the WATPI round will play a major role during your final selection.
