To become a journalist you don't need any degree in the subject but if you avail a degree it will help you to get higher posts or job easily. As many of the recruiters need a student having journalism degree for them.
You should at least take enough courses to pick up the basics, however, and if you actually want to get a job with a news organization, you'll need either a degree in journalism, some pretty significant published work, or family in the business.
