Is there mechatronics or robotics btech degree at any of the iits?

Hi Raghavendran,

No IIT offers B.Tech course in Mechatronics Engineering.  Only, M.Tech in Mechatronics Engineering course is available at Indian Institute of Technology Patna.

Similarly, No IIT offers B.Tech course in Automation and Robotics Engineering .  Only, M.Tech in Robotics and Automation course is available at Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur.

Yes a mechatronics engineer candidate can work in the automobile industry. The future mechatronics engineer will be able to work as a mechanical engineer with an extra knowledge in electronics systems. This facility will help the engineer to work in the electronic part of mechanical devices, as the electronic engineer will not have the appropriate mechanical considerations when deciding and designing the electronics of a mechanical device.

Mechatronics is comparatively a newer field which is less explored but it,'s definitely is one of the most promising field.It provides various applications such as Robotics, Automation, Nanotechnology, Bio Medical Systems etc and is being used extensively for its efficient and reliable solutions where mechanical work is to be done in repeated fashion with great accuracy.

The scope for the job is widespread in fields such as automobile, robotics, aerospace, and aviation, gas and oil, transport, defense, manufacturing, telecom, metallurgy, bio mechatronics, biomedical systems. In India, opportunities are present in organizations such as DRDO, ISRO, the Navy, the Army, the Air Force etc.

The demand increases if one moves out of India to countries such as the USA, UK, Russia, Germany. The work profile in the domain of Mechatronics can be a Robotics Engineer, Scientist, Research Engineer, Software Developer, Programmer, Automation Engineer, Machine Designer, Mechatronics Engineer, Control System Engineer. The initial salary for these professionals can be 2.5-5 lakhs per annum.

Robotics is a part of Mechatronics. This is because Mechatronics involves mechanical, electronics and computer engineering fields. The main difference is in inputs. In Mechatronics, inputs are provided and in Robotics the robotic systems acquire inputs. So it cannot be said that Mechatronics and Robotics are the same.

Computer Science mainly encompasses four major areas ofcomputing: theory, algorithms,programminglanguages, and architecture. Whereas computer engineering focuses on the hardware and software part of computers.

Since you want to pursue mechantronics and your percentile is 93 in general category the  according to me NARULA institute of technology is best for you it is in West Bengal.

Although there are many other colleges as well but with your percentile this is the best one.
