Continuous Discharge Certificate or CDC is a seafarer's identity document like passport issued by his country. Every seafarer must carry this document while on board, which is also an official and legal record of his sea experience. Without a CDC, a person is not eligible to work onships. CDC is mandatory to work on ships. It is also compulsory for Merchant navy job.

Hello.
Merchant navy sponsorship test is divided into two batches one is February batch and other is October batch the exam for the February batch basically held in October/November every year while for the October batch the exam held in April/may, so accordingly you can see ,for which batch you are expecting the exam date.

check the important date for the exam. Due to current crisis many exam got delayed. Check for updated details and prepare accordingly. Visit the official webpage of the organizing body.

Don't believe until it get sure that board has released the notice. Make note of important dates. Prepare meanwhile to give your utmost performance.

Hello,

If you belong to general category then look for private college. You won't get government college for admission in general category. If you have an reservation category then apply for non-technical branches for admission.

Here are some name where you can  give a try :-

  1. Jadavpur University:- Printing engineering (st category cutoff 50935)
  2. Heritage Institute of Technology:- Chemical engineering (ST category 64288),applied electronics and instrumentation :- st category 66659
  3. Haldia Institute of technology:- almost all the branch for ST category. some branches for SC category
  4. Jalpaiguri Goverment Engineering College

There are many other colleges too so look for it. You will get an admission for sure just you have to search the best option for you as per your score in WBJEE.

If you wish to enter the navigational and engineering fields of merchant navy then you have to complete a bachelor's degree in Nautical Science or Marine Engineering. Direct entry to merchant navy is also possible for students who have completed their 12th with PCM are eligible to join as Deck Cadets.

To join Merchant Navy after completing engineering you must have B.Tech in any of the following specializations:

  • Marine Engineering
  • Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering
  • Petroleum Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Harbour & Ocean Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Electrical & Electronics Engineering

After completing engineering, you can work as a Cadet Engineer, Junior Engineer, Third Engineer, Second Engineer, and Chief Engineer depending upon the vacancies available.

Engineers are sent on the pre-sea training for a year before they are sent on board. Then they are placed on the ship for a training period of approximately 6 months. After their training period, they appear the competency examination and work as the fourth engineer on ships. For moving up the ladder, they are expected to complete sea time and then they write competency exams.

i am pursuing b.tech (mechanical) ..how i join merchant Navy ?

Hello Anuj,

You can join Merchant Navy after completing Mechanical Engineering. For this you have to do a GME( Graduate Marine Engineer) course for an year and then get placed in the shipping company as a Trainee Marine Engineer.

The requirements that are to be fulfilled are mentioned below. Have a look at them:

1. You should have finished minimum qualification 10th (Any Stream) or 12th with Physics, Chemistry, and Maths for joining Merchant Navy. The admission in the Merchant Navy is done through Entrance exam which includes screening test and written test.

2. Age limit 17 ½ - 27 Years.

3. Minimum height requirement is 5 Feet

4. Weight requirement as per WHO (World Health Organisation).

5. One should have normal vision. But glasses up to or minus 2.5 do not allow people to join Merchant Navy.

6. Fully medically fit, No Color Blindness, Eye Vision should be 6/6 no Glasses Allowed. Medical requirements shall be as per the existing standards of D.G Shipping INDIA.

Hello aspirant,

First, a sponsorship test is conducyed twice a year for Class 12 students with PCM Syream( Englush mandatory). This test includes a offline MCQ type exam, a interview and a medical test. Then the candidates are shortlisted based on this.
Then this shortlisted candidates are required to clear IMU-CET after which they ate eligible for the scholarship.

I am in class 12th science. am I eligible for joining merchant navy.if yes that whats the salary??

The eligibility for joining merchant navy is finishing class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Candidates have to be unmarried Indian citizens (male or female). Normal vision is required but glasses up to plus or minus 2.5 may be allowed.

In Merchant Navy , the salary can range from anywhere between Rs. 12000 to Rs. 8 lakhs per month though the pay structure differ from company to company, city to city, the export-import needs, seniority etc.
