The mandatory clinical test for merchant navy are

1. Complete blood count

2. Routine urine

3. Blood sugar

4. Audiometry

5. Vision test

6. X ray of chest

7. Electrocardiogram

These are the few tests conducted by by training institute before taking in the cadets for training and orientation , I hope this helps , all the very best .

The eye standards required for merchant navy is given below:

There should not be any degree of squint or any morbid condition of eyes or of the eyelids that is liable to aggravate or recur, the pressure of trachoma and iris complication sequela. Candidates must possess good binocular vision (fusion faculty and a full field of vision in both eyes). Movement of the eyeballs must be full in all directions and the pupils should react normally to light and accommodation.

Below mentioned vision standards must be met by the applicant:

Deck Department:  Vision should be 6/6 in better eye and 6/9 in the other eye;

Engine and Electrical Department: Vision should be 6/12 in each eye or 6/9 in better eye and 6/18 in the other eye;

The vision should be 6/6 (normal) in each eye separately. Defective colour vision tested by Ishihara Colour Blindness Test is a disqualification.

Yes, you definitely can join merchant navy with this age and qualifications which you mentioned here
Read the following guidelines for having a gist of eligible criteria to join merchant navy.
1:   the minimum age is 17 year and the maximum age is 25 year to be eligible for examination pertaining to the merchant navy. As per the government rules, the maximum age relaxation for SC and ST is 5 year.
Physical fitness is of outmost importance for a career at sea.

2: Education qualifications : the minimum eligibility for courses in nautical science and marine engineering is 10+2 or an equivalent examination with physics, chemistry and mathematics.

Merchant navy as a profession is nothing but a treat if you are traveller at heart , it has has opportunities of roaming all around the globe and ensuring the sense of fullfilment and satisfaction apart from that it also demands you to be physically and mentally fit . following are the eyesight requirements for dect cadet,

  • eyesight should be 6/6.
  • no color blindness.

other criteria are: you must be a science student, 17 years or above, physically fit and above 5 feet.
