If you are currently working in a job where you are not getting paid enough or if you do not have
a job at all you can definitely join this college. Also, if you have a passion for merchant navy
then this is definitely a great course. There are many perks attached to this course. After the
course a job is assured. Right after two years of doing the course you can start earning a
substantial amount of money. It can be up to 1 lakhs. This is not something you will be able to
earn if you are working on the shore even if you get increments. Also, compared to other
colleges this academy provides a better GME course.
There are 3 batches for the GME course being held each year, in the months of March, July,
November. The strength of the March is 40 GME, while the July and November batches has 80
GMEs entry. The total strength is 200 GME in a year. AEMA follows the 8 Months onshore
followed by 4 Months onboard training as Engine Cadet to complete the required 12 months
GME training Program.
Minimum 60% in 12th PCM or Diploma aggregate followed by B.E./B.Tech. in Mechanical or
Naval Architecture" after attending a course of 4 years duration from I.I.T. or from college
recognized by AICTE/UGC. with minimum (60% aggregate & 60% final year) of B.Tech.

Also, should have obtained not less than 50% marks in English as a separate subject, at either
10th or 12th standard or in the Degree course conducted by a recognized Board/ University.
There is an age limit as well. They should not be more than 28 years on the date of
commencement.
Physical They have to be physically fit and should meet the medical requirements as specified by
DGS guidelines and the eyesight must 6/12 in each eye without any visual aids and should not
have color blindness.

Firstly, you can get a job as a Deck Cadet, if passed 12th class with PCM stream. B. Tech candidates, who have completed their degree in Electrical / Mechanical engineering, can get a job in the Merchant Navy as a post of Fifth Engineer/Junior Engineer/ Engine Cadet. Required to go through basic pre-sea training for those Candidates who have got a direct entry for deck cadets. Which is generally arranged by the recruiting company of the Merchant Navy. And candidates, who got a direct entry for jobs as an engineering cadet should do nine months long Pre-sea training in Marine Engineering from MERI College. Salary payment is one thing that you do not need to worry about in Merchant Navy jobs. Starting salary of a Navy employee is Rs 12k and could increase up to Rs 8 Lakh per month.

For doing DNS you first need to give IMU-CET which is conducted by Indian Maritime University twice every year for DNS. After that you need to separately apply for the company sponsorship exam after clearing the exam you have to go for Medical and for DNS criteria is you should have eyesight 6/6 without glasses.
See some companies have their own colleges like Anglo Eastern, Great Eastern etc. So they give you their own college but some companies don't have Colleges than you have to go for counselling of different colleges and company will guide and sponsor you for that.

Dear Parashare, IMUCET 2018 has been conducted in June and the programme has started in August, 2018. However, if you are enquiring about IMUCET 2019, the exam will be conducted tentaively in June 2019. Registrations will open tentatively in the 2nd week of May. Academic eligibility for various courses:
I: G.P. RATING
Course Duration: 6 Months
Minimum Academic Qualification: Pass with aggregate 40% marks in 10th Standard from a recognized Board with Science, Mathematic as subjects and with minimum 40% marks in English language either in 10th, 12th or diploma / degree exam.
Maximum Age limit: Between 17.5 to 25 years.
Course Name: 6 Month Pre-Sea Course for General Purpose Rating for Fitters/Petty Officers.
Minimum Academic Qualification: Pass in 2-Year I.T.I. course from Govt. Approved Institute with minimum 50% aggregate marks in final year and minimum 40% marks in English at 10th or 12th or diploma / degree exam.
II: DNS- DIPLOMA IN NAUTICAL SCIENCE
Course Duration: 1 year
Age Limit: Maximum 25 years
Physical Standards: Medically fit as per the standards set by M.S. Medical Examination Rules, 2000.
Academic Qualification: Pass in (10+2) or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English as separate subjects with a PCM average of not less than 60% and with 50% marks in English language at 10th or 12th std exam.
Eyesight: Candidates have to qualify a full eyesight test conducted by the Mercantile Marine Department before being finally selected for the course. They should have 6/6 in each eye without visual aids and should be free from colour blindness.
Career Progression:
Phase 1: 1 year dns course at Academy.
Phase 2: 18 month sea training at ship.
Phase 3: Appear for 2nd mate exams + bsc.
Phase 4: Join as a 3rd officer and get promoted to 2nd officer.
III: DNS LEADING TO BSC NAUTICAL SCIENCE
Diploma in Nautical Science leading to Bsc Nautical Science affiliated to Indian Maritime University.
[After completing one year diploma + 18 months onboard training + 4 months preparatory course + requisite modular courses, can appear for written and oral exam of Second Mate Certificate of Competency ].
Minimum Academic Qualification: (a ) Pass in (10+2) or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English as separate subjects with a PCM average of not less than 60%
OR
(b) Bsc . in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry or Electronics with Physics as individual subject in one of the year, with an average of not less than 55% of marks in the final year.
(c ) B.E./B. Tech. Degree from I.I.T. or from a college recognized by AICTE with an average of not less than 50% of marks in the final year. The candidates should have obtained 50% marks in English language at 10th or 12th Std or in the Degree course conducted by recognized Board or any University.
Note : Selection of the candidates and their admissions will be through Combined Entrance Test conducted by Indian Maritime University.

A diploma in nautical science DNS is preferred by companies recruiting fresh cadets rather than Cadets of Bsc in nautical science. The course covers all both theoretical and practical aspects related to maritime studies. Towards completion of the course, cadets go on to assume professional capacities in the field, such as Navigation Officer on Merchant Navy ships. Before cadets can assume such roles as Navigating Officer in Merchant Navy ships, they are made to go through mandatory 12- months long sea service.
