Can I persue MS in Computer science from abroad even I have done Btech in Mechancial Engineering in India

Nitin Kumar 4th Jun, 2024

Yes, you can pursue an MS in Computer Science from abroad even with a BTech in Mechanical Engineering from India. While a CS undergrad is ideal, universities value well-rounded students with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, which mechanical engineering cultivates. Highlight any CS or programming courses you took during your BTech. If your background is light, consider taking online courses or MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) in CS fundamentals to demonstrate your interest and ability.

Some universities offer MS in CS programs with bridges or preparatory courses for students from non-CS backgrounds. Look for programs that acknowledge the value of your engineering background while providing a foundation in CS.

I hope it helps!

Hi, I have done BE in EEE but working as a software engineer from last 3years. I want to study MS in computer science and engineering, do I have to clear any exams or how can I get seat in IIT Madras? And is it possible to do part time MS? If yes, what is the course duration?

Nitin Kumar 31st May, 2024

Getting into an M.S. program in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at IIT Madras with a B.E. in EEE and software engineering experience is possible.

While not mandatory for all specializations, some M.S. programs at IIT Madras, including CSE, recommend a GATE score for shortlisting candidates. A good GATE score can strengthen your application.

Your B.E. in EEE is a valid bachelor's degree, but some foundational knowledge of computer science would be beneficial. Your 3 years as a software engineer demonstrate practical experience in the field. You can highlight relevant projects and skills in your application. IIT Madras typically considers a combination of factors for selection, including GATE score (if applicable), academic performance in B.E., Statement of Purpose (SOP), and letters of recommendation (LOR).

IIT Madras doesn't currently offer a part-time M.S. program in CSE.However, they do offer a Master of Science (MSc) by Research program, which allows some flexibility in scheduling research work.

The full-time M.S. program in CSE at IIT Madras is typically a two-year program.

Hello there,

Yes, a student from Nepal who has completed an MBBS degree from a recognized government college in India can pursue MD/MS in India by appearing for the NEET PG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate) examination. Here’s how the process works and where to find information about institutions:

Eligibility for MD/MS in India:

  1. NEET PG :

    • The candidate must qualify for the NEET PG exam. This is the primary entrance examination for admission to MD/MS courses in India.

    • The exam assesses knowledge of subjects studied during the MBBS course.

  2. Recognition :

    • The MBBS degree must be from a college recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI) or the National Medical Commission (NMC) .

    • Ensure that the college in India where the degree was obtained is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools, as this can also affect eligibility.

      Admission Process:

  3. Qualify NEET PG : The first step is to prepare for and pass the NEET PG examination.

  4. Counseling :

    • After qualifying, candidates will be eligible for counseling conducted by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) for government seats or by respective state authorities for state quota seats.

  5. Seat Allocation : Based on rank, preferences, and available seats, candidates will be allocated seats in various medical colleges for MD/MS courses.

    Where to Find Information:

  6. Official NEET PG Website : Check for updates, eligibility criteria, application process, and exam schedules on the official website of NEET PG ( https://nbe.edu.in ).

  7. Medical Council of India (MCI) : For information about recognized medical colleges and their programs, visit the official MCI website ( https://www.nmc.org.in ).

  8. State Medical Councils : Each state has its own medical council, which can provide information on state-specific admission processes and institutions.

  9. Universities and Colleges : Most universities with medical colleges have their own websites detailing their MD/MS programs, admission criteria, and counseling processes.

  10. Forums and Educational Consultants : Websites like Careers360 , Shiksha , and student forums on platforms like Quora can provide insights and experiences from other students who have gone through the process.

    Additional Tips:
  • Preparation : Prepare thoroughly for the NEET PG exam using available study materials and coaching if needed.

  • Networking : Join online groups or forums where current students or alumni can provide guidance and share experiences related to admissions.

By following these steps and utilizing these resources, a student from Nepal can successfully navigate the process of pursuing MD/MS in India.

Nitin Kumar 27th May, 2024

It is  possible that you might still be able to apply for admission to the Faculty of Commerce at MSU Vadodara with your OBC certificate, even without a non-creamy layer (NCL) certificate at this time.

Check the Faculty of Commerce website for admission guidelines or FAQs. They might have information on the NCL certificate requirement and the process for submitting it later.

Call or email the Faculty of Commerce admissions office. They can provide the most up-to-date information on the NCL certificate requirement for OBC candidates and the procedure for submitting it later if allowed.
