National Institute of Fashion Technology Entrance Examination
Dear Student,
A laptop is must for almost all the professional courses nowadays. You can not avoid the need for Laptop in any professional course for too long. As far as NIFT is considered, yes you need a laptop for things like using AutoCAD( a designing software), SQL ( a database language), etc. There are plenty of other software which can only be used on a Laptop.
Hope this helps.
Thank You.

Best of luck!!
Nift has relative grading system. Grades are decided upon the performance of the entire class and not on the standard grading system. This is how you may calculate. Consider grades as A, A-, B, B-, C,C-, D, E, and F. So 9 grades. The grades depend on person who scored the highest and lowest and accordingly the grades are set for the entire class
(Consider out of 100) If the highest is 50 and lowest is 45. The person with the highest gets an A and the person with lowest gets the desired grade according to the standard grading system. And the whole class gets the grade divided accordingly into 9 parts. Similarly if the highest in 95 and lowest is 45. The same thing is applied.
Hope it helps.
Thank you!!
Hello Sneha,
Common merit rank is your All India Rank in that particular exam.
General merit rank is your category rank for general category student.
In NIFT there is reservation for OBC, SC and ST. But if a person has applied for a reserved category then despite getting higher rank he/she can’t occupy the general seat. This goes for all the category. That’s why declaring general category rank (or any category rank) is important as there are specific seats reserved for all categories (including general).
You get your counselling call on the basis of your CMR (Except in case you’re PwD). Person with higher CMR of general category gets more preference for choosing the college of
his choice than the person with lower CMR of general category. Same goes with other categories too.
Hope this will be helpful.
Hi Anchal,
Cut off for each college depends on the number of seats available, difficulty level of the entrance exam, performance of other applicants in the exam, so it is subject to change every year. However according to previous year cut off there are quite high chances for you to get fashion designing according to your category rank in any of the 15 campuses of NIFT. For any further information regarding cut off please refer to this careers360 link.
