Can NIOS Chemistry be used to meet DASA eligibility for IIITH (2025-26 batch) if Im studying the NSW HSC in Australia? IIITH requires Maths, Physics, and Chemistry, but my curriculum lacks Chemistry, and the DASA brochure specifies subjects must be completed "outside India."

Nikita shahi 15th Aug, 2025

Hi!

DASA eligibility for IIIT Hyderabad requires completion of Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry at the senior secondary level outside India. If your NSW HSC curriculum lacks Chemistry, you need to meet that requirement separately.

Now, NIOS is an Indian board. Even though you’re abroad, if you take NIOS Chemistry, it technically counts as an Indian qualification, which might not satisfy the "outside India" clause in DASA rules. In many cases, DASA strictly requires all three subjects to be part of your recognised foreign school-leaving certificate.

Best approach you can confirm directly with DASA/IIITH admissions via email.

Consider taking Chemistry through an Australian-recognised pathway (e.g., Open High School or TAFE NSW) instead of NIOS.

I am a student studied my 11th and 12th from Telangana state. My physics and chemistry exam is out 90 marks but ,for to entry marks for kcet is for out of 100.What is solution for it

Afreen 9th May, 2025

To calculate KCET qualifying marks when your board exam scores are out of 90 in Physics and Chemistry instead of 100, you need to convert your board scores to a 100-point scale. This is typically done by calculating the percentage of marks obtained and then scaling it to a 100-point system.

Here's how to calculate the qualifying marks:

Calculate the total PCM marks for your board exams: Add your scores in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

Divide the total PCM marks by the total possible marks (300): This will give you the overall percentage of your board scores.

Multiply the percentage by 100: This will convert the percentage to a 100-point scale.

Consider the 50:50 weightage: Your final rank in KCET will be based on your KCET score (50%) and your board marks (50%).

Example:

If your board scores in Physics and Chemistry are out of 90 each and Mathematics is out of 100, and you scored 80 in each subject, here's how you would calculate the qualifying marks:

Total PCM marks: 80 (Physics) + 80 (Chemistry) + 80 (Mathematics) = 240

Percentage of board scores: (240 / 300) = 0.80

Scaled board scores: 0.80 * 100 = 80 (out of 100)

Your board marks would be treated as 80 out of 100 for the KCET rank calculation.

I PASSED IN 12 PREVIOUS YEAR I passed in my compulsory subjects physics chemistry maths but failed in my optional subject biology my wbjee counseling for btech is nearby Do I have to face any problem in counseling in wbjee for my optional subject bio fail

Sujal Singh 9th May, 2025

Since you have passed the compulsory subjects (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics), your failure in Biology should not affect your eligibility for WBJEE counseling for B.Tech, as Biology is typically not required for the engineering stream. Ensure that all your documents are accurate and complete.

Prachi Kumari 2nd Jul, 2025

Hello,

No, NIOS Chemistry cannot be used to meet DASA eligibility for IIITH if you are studying the NSW HSC in Australia.

As per DASA guidelines, all three required subjects (Maths, Physics, and one among Chemistry/Bio/Biotech/CS) must be part of the same qualifying exam, which should be completed in a school located outside India. NIOS is considered an Indian board, so it does not meet the “outside India” condition.

So, if Chemistry is not part of your NSW HSC, then using NIOS Chemistry will not make you eligible under DASA for IIITH.

Hope it helps !
