Question : Directions: In this question, three statements are given, followed by two conclusions numbered I and II. Assuming the statements to be true, even if they seem to be at variance with commonly known facts, decide which of the conclusions logically follows/follow from the statements
Statements:
I. No dean is a teacher.
II. All teachers are professors.
III. No professor is a lecturer.
Conclusions:
I. Some deans are lecturers.
II. Some teachers are lecturers.

Option 1: Only conclusion II follows

Option 2: Only conclusion I follows

Option 3: Both conclusions I and II follow

Option 4: Neither conclusion I nor II follows

Team Careers360 17th Jan, 2024

Correct Answer: Neither conclusion I nor II follows

Solution : The possible Venn diagram according to the given statements is as follows –

Let's analyze the conclusions –
Conclusion I: Some deans are lecturers – From the Venn diagram, it is evident that there is no definite relation between deans and lecturers. Thus, this conclusion does not follow.
Conclusion II: Some teachers are lecturers – Since no professor is a lecturer and all teachers are professors, so some teachers can never be lecturers. Thus, this conclusion does not follow.

So, neither conclusion I nor II follows. Hence, the fourth option is correct.

P. The award is named after Alfred Nobel, the Swedish inventor of dynamite.
Q. A Nobel Prize is an award that is given to someone whose work has benefitted society.

S. This year Professors David Julius and Ardem Petapoutian have won this prize for medicine.

Option 1: SPQR

Option 2: PQSR

Option 3: SQRP

Option 4: QPRS

Team Careers360 17th Jan, 2024

Correct Answer: QPRS

Solution : The correct choice is the fourth option.

This paragraph introduces the concept of the Nobel Prize (sentence Q), explains its origin (sentence P), details the categories, mentioning medicine (sentence R), and concludes by providing a recent example related to the medicine category (sentence S).

So the most logical order for the sentences to form a coherent paragraph is:

  • Q. A Nobel Prize is an award that is given to someone whose work has benefited society.
  • P. The award is named after Alfred Nobel, the Swedish inventor of dynamite.
  • R. This award is given in six categories, and medicine is one of those categories.
  • S. This year, Professors David Julius and Ardem Petapoutian have won this prize for medicine.

Therefore, the most meaningful sequence is QPRS.
