You have great faculty, infrastructure and research facilities as far as Earth System Science, Mining, Geology & Geophysics Departments are concerned at IIT Kharagpur. Regarding placements yeah you do have fair share of Placements with Companies like Halliburton, Schlumberger, Cairn (Vedanta) and couple of more Petroleum/Oil& Gas Companies. Earlier you had a lot more companies in this sector like Rio Tinto, but they stopped visitinh the camous since last fee years. Due to dearth of Core Opportunities, many even take up positions with Coaching Institutions, IT/Analtics, Startups and Edtech Companies. Many even move on to pursue PhD from some of the World's best Universities in US, UK and Australia and hence a strong career in Industry, Research or Academia. Incase youre interested to prepare for Government Service Examinations, KGP is the best place and your really get a peaceful environment besides a very strong campus culture and peer groups.
