I scored 49% in my b.com hons. Can I go for social work entrance for masters from JMI?

Sudarshan kumar 21st Jan, 2020

Hi Megha Hada,

The Eligibility criteria set by the college for admission in MA with social work is 55% in graduation  from any affiliated board.

Eligible candidates need to appear for the Entrance Test conducted by the university. And then the merit list will be made on the basis of marks obtained in the entrance test.

Sorry to say Megha but you are not eligible for the Entrance Test.

Hope this will help, please feel free to ask if you have any further queries.

Thank You.

I have already qualified in social work. Do I need to qualify sociology separately to do ph. d in sociology?

Meghna Mukul 2nd Dec, 2019

Hello!

As per my knowledge you can pursue Ph.D in sociology if you have done your post graduation in sociology and social work both. As Ph.D is research and social work and sociology has many topics and issue of concern which are similar. Also it'd certainly be a good choice, if not then Ph.D in social work is a great field of study as well. I hope this helps you.

I want to do the course MA in social work. Can you Please tell me the process for this?

Meghna Mukul 18th Nov, 2019

Hi!

For MA in social work or MSW you must have a bachelor's degree in any stream. There are several universities and colleges that offer this course but in order to take admission you need to pass the entrance test (most of the colleges take test). The syllabus is not much difficult, it includes

  • General knowledge
  • Numeric ability (upto 10th standard)
  • Social work
  • Verbal ability
  • Reasoning ability

These are basic topics which are generally asked. Social work mainly contains parts of sociology till bachelor's degree level which is not a problem. Some universities that offer MSW are:

  1. Tata Institute Of social sciences, Mumbai
  2. Delhi school of social work, Delhi University
  3. Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh
  4. Jamia Milia Islamia, Delhi

There are more colleges which offer the course and are on the top list. I hope this is helpful.

How should prepare for social work in m.a

Meghna Mukul 16th Nov, 2019

Hello!

This is a great field for study and a respectable career choice. M.A. in Social work also known as Masters in social work (MSW) is offered by many government universities like

  1. Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh
  2. Jamia Milia Islamia University, Delhi
  3. Delhi University, Delhi
  4. University of Mysore, Karnataka
  5. Tata Institute Of Social Sciences, Mumbai

To pursue master's, bachelor's degree is must. For MSW one must have a bachelor's degree in any stream. There are entrance tests conducted by the universities for admission in this course. To prepare for that you must know the topics from which questions are generally asked, these are

  • General knowledge
  • Reasoning Ability
  • Social work
  • Verbal Ability
  • Numeric Ability ( in some entrance exams; basically mathematics till 10th standard)

The whole syllabus includes parts of general knowledge for which there are many books to refer to as well as newspaper reading is very beneficial, then parts of social work which majorly contains sociology, reasoning and numeric abilities can be slight difficult but if practiced everyday for 2 hours they can be the scoring factors, and then is the verbal ability which is not a hard nut to crack. The preparation time depends on aspirants' abilities to grasp but 6 months are enough to get through the exams.

All the best!
