For starters you should read The Hindu on a daily basis for current affairs(dynamic portion) and when it comes to books, always start with NCERT books(class 6 to 12) as these will build your foundation strong, and then move towards the standards books such as Indian Polity by Laxmikanth, Indian Economy by Ramesh Singh, World Geography and Geography of India by Majid Hussain, GC Leong's Physical and Human Geography, India after Independence by Bipan Chandra,History of Medieval India by Satish Chandra etc.
