Should I take BSc+MSc Data Science to become a data scientist or BSc Statistics and MSc Data Science? What degrees should you choose after 12th inorder to become a data scientist?

Arhana Chakraborty 5th Jun, 2022

Both the courses are great and have quite a large number of options available. See I would say, if you have a comprehensive knowledge of statistics, the career as a Data Scientist will be of a much more influence. So if you want to have a more fundamental level of learning with strong basics and a much more illustrious future, then my suggestion will be for you to go for the course of BSc statistics followed by MSc in Data Science. This will shape your knowledge ahead and it can be really beneficial for you.

can a non statistics student opt b.com in statistics ? if yes , will it lead to difficulties in learning statistics in b.com?? ( I was a commerce student who had opted basic maths instead of statistics in my 11 th and 12 th classes)

Arhana Chakraborty 24th May, 2022

If we wish to do BCOM in Statistics, then in most of the colleges, you will be asked to have Statistics/ Pure Mathematics in your 10+2 level. So if you have the Mathematics paper which is learned by the Science student in 10+2 then you are eligible for the course, else with Basic Mathematics, you may not be eligible for most of the colleges in India. Infact the course of BCOM in Statistics is offered by very few institutes in India. Mainly, the MCOM in Statistics is an available course.

Anushri Varshney 11th May, 2022

Hi  candidate,

It is good that you have mentioned your interest because there are many individuals who dinot know their area of interest and still pursue the course they didn't know about.

See, it is quite okay if you donot want to pursue bsc in Mathematics , there is no issues. But as per my opinion a bsc degree will not let you in a decent job so it is better to pursue Bsc in IT as it will help you in getting a good job in it world.

Right now IT sector is at boom due to this you will get ample of opportunities if you are good with computer.
