You have average academic records. To end up in IIMs you need to score a very high percentile so as to cover up the loss due to academic records.

See after you give your CAT exam every college makes a merit list based on your aggregate score which comprises of many factors such as CAT marks, 10th 12th and graduation percentage, work experience, engineer or non engineer, gender with different weightages for different colleges. Generally overall weightage for your academic records is 10- 25% in your aggregate score. So to cover up the loss you need to score a little higher than what an average student requires.

To get a  call from top IIMs i.e.IIM A, B, C you need to score above 99.67+ percentile. For other old IIMs like IIM L, K and I you need to score atleast above 98+ percentile and to get calls from all New IIMs you need to score above 95+ percentile.

So in short aim for a high percentile you can get calls from top reputated colleges.

All the best for your preparations and exams!!

New IIMs may give a call if your CAT score is high enough. Old IIMs will be a bit difficult. The selection criteria from IIMs to IIMs change. Please check selection criteria of various IIMs from their website

FMS give no weight for academics at the time of calling and give only 10% weight in final selection

Your academics are on a bit lower side hence you need to score a high percentile to balance that. Hence try to concentrate on your strengths and score a good enough percentile.

Your work experience will be an advantage when compared to other people and hence it will be an advantage during the interviews.

Apply for other top B Schools also to maximise your chances of selection. All the best
