a plastic eating bacteria is viable solution to the plastic problem?

Hello Student,

Actually plastic garbage problem is a great concern for us. Over 300 million tons of plastic produced annually. Which produce million tons of plastic garbage each year also.

Scientists recently discovered a new type of bacteria which actually consume plastics. Ideonella sakaiensis is a bacterium capable of breaking down and consuming the pl astic, polyethylene .

In a research scientists has discovered that those bacterias can reduce 7 to 11% of plastics  in only 5 months. So this strategy may not be a complete solution but it can be e a little part for the solution to the plastic problem.
