are percentile greater than percentage ? whats the difference ?
Hi Aradhya,
The basic difference between percentile and percentage is,
- Percentage means out of 100. For e.g, if you have scored 80%(80 percent) in an exam, then it means out of every 100, you have an 80
- Percentile means if the entire range of students is divided into 100 groups, which group do you belong to.
And Yes percentile is usually greater than the percentage.
I'm here to help you regarding your query !!
Firstly, percentile tells you how many people you have left behind or the number of people who are below you in scoring. i.e.., what percent of students you are ahead of. Now a days, most national level exams prefer to give results in terms of percentile as it is more reliable.
Percentage is what we have been calculating our entire lives. Your total marks divided by total marks multiplied by 100. Basically, it is irrelevant of how the other students have done in the same exam and it is just a reflection of individuality.
Hope, you understand !!
All the very best !!
