Hi Aspirant,

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering and science. The GATE score of a candidate reflects the relative performance level of a candidate.Graduate Aptitude test in Engineering(GATE) exam is conducted yearly once to provide admissionss into post graduate courses in various prestigious institutes like IITs,NITs,IIITs etc.. and also to be taken into various jobs in Public Sector Undertakings(PSUs).One thing you should keep in mind is that we cannot predict the rank based on your score because the gate score depends on the following factors:

  • The difficulty of the paper.
  • No.of students appeared in the examination.

Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) is a Government owned corporation or a company in which Central or State Government have more than 51% share. Basically these Government companies run like private companies and share profits to Government.

All these Public sector companies recruit Engineer Trainee (ET) based on the GATE scores. Initially they would shortlist candidates based on GATE scores and then the process is followed by GD and Interview for assessment of different facets of knowledge.

PSUs are subdivided into the following 3 categories-

  • Maharatna
  • Navratna
  • Miniratna

GATE Eligibility:

The following students are eligible to take GATE:

  • Bachelor's degree holders in Engineering / Technology / Architecture (4 years after 10+2/ Post-B.Sc./ Post-Diploma) and those who are in the final year of such programs.
  • Master's degree holders in any branch of Science/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final year of such programs.
  • Candidates in the second or higher year of Four-year integrated master's degree programs (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering / Technology.
  • Candidates in the fourth or higher year of Five-year integrated master's degree programs or Dual Degree programs in Engineering / Technology.
  • Candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognized by UGC/AICTE (e.g. AMIE by iE(i), AMICE(i) by the institute of Civil Engineers (India)-iCE(i)) as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech.
What is the eligibility criteria for PSU recruitment through GATE exam?

A valid GATE score in a relevant discipline is the most seeking criterion required in PSU recruitment through GATE. Along with this, there are other factors that are considered to define the eligibility such as-

  • Age limit
  • Minimum pass percentage or CGPA in bachelor’s degree
  • Medical standards

The eligibility criteria for PSUs recruitment through GATE even vary with the PSUs.

I think you have given your GATE exam with paper code CY(chemistry).Below are the provided list of PSUs available for your discipline:

  • Candidates have to secure at least 40% marks in interview to be eligible to get shortlisted.
  • Eligible branches:EC,PH,CY.
