Can someone with finance specialization get a consulting profile during b -school placements?

For pursuing a career as a consulting profile with a finance specialization is not an impossible task. One could be hired directly as a consultant based upon the requirements of the hiring company and moreover on your capabilities. The incoming companies should have an open post to the desired post plus, they should feel that your presence and capabilities are an asset; and valuable to the company.


A MBA specialization in finance is a good option if one has interest in math’s, finance, and economics. The course would teach the skills needed for financial theory, merger and acquisitions, focus on investment, investment strategy, etc.

The course would include portfolio management, Hedge fund management, Corporate investment management, etc.

The scope of employment is, financial planner, financial adviser, financial analyst, investment banker.

The key feature a consultant must hold are update knowledge of commerce, commercial awareness, attention to detail, communication skills, IT skills, tact and persuasive abilities, foreign language could be handy as well. The tasks required to be done are pursuing clients, implementing proposed and agreed plans, analyzing statistics.

The companies offering a high package for consultants are PayPal, Yes Bank, LIC India, Dell. Basically each company has and wants a consultant, therefore there are ample number of consultant profile jobs. The mean package goes around INR 3 to 4 Lakhs.


For having a higher prospect of becoming a consultant, while doing finance specialization you can also opt for certification courses. The certification course that would be beneficial for you  CFA (Certified Financial Adviser). CFA course would enable you to work with individuals and companies to provide them with wise financial investments.
