Hello there!

Greetings!

The region near the p-n junction where flow of charges carriers  decreases over a given time and finally results in empty charge carriers or full of immobile charge carriers is called DEPLETION region which inhibits any further electron transfer unless it is helped by putting a forward bias on the junction.

The DEPLETION REGION is also called as DEPLETION layer etc.
