Hello Nikhil,

Difference between primary pollutants and secondary pollutants -

Primary pollutants -

- They are pollutants which are passed into environment in the form they are produced.

- They belong to various categories like particulate, aerosol, reduced, oxidized.

- They are less toxic.

- They do not show synergism.

Secondary pollutants -

- The pollutants develop as a result of interaction of primary pollutants and environmental constituents.

- They are generally oxidizing.

-  They are more toxic.

Hey,

Primary pollutants are the pollutants that are emitted by the source and directly pollutes the atmosphere like, Sulphur Dioxide, Carbon monoxide etc. these cause direct harm to the environment.

Secondary pollutant are those that combine with other pollutants available and then cause pollution and initially they are not harmful until they combine with some other pollutant. For example, Ozone, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur trioxide  etc.

I hope thsi helps.

All the best!
