Dear Abhinav,

As per the new eligibility criteria introduced by AICTE to provide a relaxation of overall marks in the three compulsory subjects which was earlier 50% in PCM and now has been reduced to 45% is applicable in some specific State level Joint Engineering Exams(JEE). You can appear for these exams and based on your overall performance and the rank scored can get admitted into the State Engineering Colleges.

Some of the State JEE exams that demand an aggregate of 45% in the three compulsory subjects are:

1. COMEDK (Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges, Karnataka)

This is an exam conducted by the Karnataka government every year to admit the students into Medical and engineering colleges. It requires a minimum eligibility criterion :

Subjects: The student must have passed in individual subjects to fulfil the minimum criteria for COMEDK exam. If they fail to do so they must have passed the supplementary exams.

Aggregate Marks: The students applying for the exam must have completed their 10+2 from a recognized board. The minimum scoring of the student in the qualifying exam should be 45% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology. 40% in case of ST/SC/OBC candidates.

Diploma Candidates: The diploma candidates are not eligible to appear for the exam as it does not have any lateral entry scheme.

2. WBJEE: West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination.

Nationality: The candidate should be a citizen of India.

Age: The student must be at least 17 years old by 31st December and should not be more than 25 years old by 31st December.

Qualification: The student must have passed 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics along with Chemistry/Biology/ Biotechnology/Computer Science/Computer Application as a compulsory subject with individual pass marks in all three subjects in a regular class mode from a recognized Central or state government board.

Students appearing for the qualifying exam are also eligible.

Marks: The minimum marks secured by the candidate should be 45% for General Category and 40% for Reserved Category in the aggregate of Physics, Mathematics and the other compulsory subject.

3.OJEE: Odisha Joint Entrance Examination.

The eligibility criteria are the same as WBJEE and it deals with admissions into engineering in the state of Odisha.

I hope this helps you. All the best!

Hi there,

Yes, you can get admission in any private engineering college by giving huge amount of money ie via management quota, but i don't think that's a good idea as most of the colleges are having eligibility criteria as 60% in PCM. There are many options other than engineering which you can go for, or if you are determined for engineering then you may opt for the 12th improvement examination and score more than 60% to get eligible for most of the top colleges.

All the best.
