Does biotechnology and biochemical engineering have scope in kerala
Dear Student,
There are a couple things to be noted here.
Biotechnological Engineering, I'm assuming, is just a degree in biotechnology. Now, unless you are sure about that narrow field, don't do it. Biotech is amazing(I myself want to get into it) but it's only for those who are sure about it. In the US, biotech is growing very quickly, particularly biopharmaceuticals. Conventional drug development is no longer possible. In India though, I don't think there is too much innovation. Demand is limited. Pay isn't great.
Biochemical Engineering is just chemical engineering but with a larger biochemical focus. So you would take more organic chemistry, a little cell biology, etc. This has an advantage of being part of chemical engineering, a flexible and lucrative degree if you do it right. You could go into pharma, biotech, etc with biochem Engineering. However, just like most branches of Engineering in India other than Comp Sci, the pay isn't that great.
At the risk of sounding Indian-antinationalist, I'm gonna say that you want to be in the US for both these fields, preferrably from one of the top universities here(Stanford, MIT, Princeton, UPenn, Johns Hopkins, GeorgiaTech, UW-Madison?, etc.) The industry is undergoing so much innovation here. Rapid changes. The US owns 48% of the global pharma market and has the only significant biotech and pharma concentrations anywhere. Every serious pharma and biotech company has a stake in the US.
If anyone disagrees, please comment. I would love to hear other opinions.
