See the conduction of current means flow of electrons. Now when ever an Electric Field is applied to a conductor, the Electrons will start moving with some velocity. All this electrons don't have the same velocity. As a result, we need to get the average velocity of the electrons which are flowing in the conductor which is know as the Drift Velocity.
