hi,

see if you are interest to work for PSUs like power grid, NTPC, Indian oil, ongc, like companies gate is best gate way exams for it. generally the above mentioned psu hires candidates from top iits, nits. so for tier 2 or tier 3 students gate is the only option to make fulfill of their dream to work for maharatna, nabaratna like companies. however you must aware that number of vacancy comes very less and it is difficult to predict the cutoff since it changes every year, depends on vacancy, gate papers difficulty level, students category etc.  however for private sectors job there is not much hiring based on gate score. but certainly the gate score would add extra points to your resume.
